I Burn Corn

Newsflash

Welcome to the new I Burn Corn web site.  I am still doing some work on the site, obviously, and so it is going to be a little tough to get around for a couple of days.  Mainly, I suppose you want to be able to find the LINK TO THE FORUM

When you bring grain into your house you also have to live with the fact that you have brought a major rodent food supply inside. There are ways to mitigate this problem, by using sealed containers to hold your corn, for instance. But, if you use a lot, this just isn't going to work.

The best rodent control you can get, is to employ the services of a cat.   Because, I am going to clue you into something here, when you have 28,000 pounds of corn in your basement, like I do, I am not going to catch mice with a trap and some peanut butter. It just isn't going to happen. What does work, since the little critters have plenty of food, is cotton balls. They need nesting material. Just bait up a mouse trap with a cotton ball on the trip. It will work great.  But still, not as good as a cat.

Bugs are another issue.  You won't have a problem if you are just storing corn over the winter to burn.  But, if you try to hold corn over the winter, you will.  Read the chapter on corn storage in the Wiki for more information.
