Hello all,

My father just had a 170,000 BTU boiler installed, and he is currently going through 3-4 bags of corn/pellets a day. He thinks this is too much. What are some of you guys using? It has not really been that cold right now. Upper 30's-lower 40's at night. I think he is mixing them 50-50.

Also, Ive been reading that a manometer is highly recommended. Can anyone suggest a brand?

Thanks!
James

Consumption should depend on demand. 1 bu corn at 15% moisture is 392,000 btus. What is he trying to heat?

Tim,

He is heating aprox. 2000 sf, maybe a little more. It is a ranch style home, with in floor heating. The guy who sold, and installed the furnace is clueless as to how to setup and program it, so he is pretty much just going by trial and error. Thank you for your help!

If the pellets are 40 lb bags and corn is 50 lb bags this sounds excessive. With that said, it may be that it is taking some energy to get the large floor mass up to temp. How long has it been running?

Any previous data from other heat source to compare?

If I was running with those temps I would be around a bushel (56 lbs) a day, but have cast iron radiators with similar floor space.

That is a lot, ours is a LMF 100K unit that was upgraded to the LDJ 176K specs. we burn 14 BU in 8-12 days in west central WI. House is 8 yrs old and 2700 ft including the basement. I would call LMF directly, he is burning up money!
