I made this short video last year of my setup, Bixby 115, mostly burning pellets. I have gotten so many great emails and responses from folks all over the world. I am now on my 3rd season heating with biomass and feel that anyone considering going this route to heat or supplement their heat, just do it. You will not be disappointed. Sure there's a bit of a learning curve, and it's more work than simply setting the gas thermostat, but it's well worth it in my opinion!! Comments, questions or suggestions appreciated.

Good job Dave!
Now that you have had it for 3 seasons and gotten more experienced any regrets? I remember back when you were wondering which brand would work and how much work was involved. 3 years sure goes by fast.
Have you had any mechanical issues yet? convection bearings or feeder wheel gaskets come to mind.

Hey Ron. I did have to replace the convection bearings mid last season. went down to the local skate shop and got a pack of 8 for 10 bucks or so. very easy as you know to swap out. the feeder wheel gasket has gotten warn down, but not too badly. will probably have to replace that at the end of this year. other than that, the Bixby has been rock solid. quality fuel is key I think although the stove will burn anything very easily. just makes cleaning rare (every 8 weeks or so) and easy with the good fuel. i do see slightly higher temps with a just cleaned stove, but I see very little temp drops after 2 days or so...hope all is well with you

Nice video. Yup bioburners are the way to go, you have your choice of what to burn and if to burn.

Just a couple of questions, was that the lake near the beginning of the video?

Where's the tip-ups?????????????

Well considering where you live I suppose I should offer the Pat's good luck the rest of the way.

Way to go Dave. Only thing better than pictues are video's. I have been thinking of purchasing a couple of those thru the wall fans. One to blow back toward the kitchen and one toward the upstairs. Our PC45 keeps the restaurant toasty warm, but the kitchen is hard to heat when the stove/ovens are off. We have the LDJ boiler with a water to air converter in the natural gas furnace when the temps get real cold, but I sure would like these fans for circulating the air. We heat 3 stories, and the PC45 sits in a central area close to the stairs. Sure would cut down on the pellet / corn usage and extend the off time for the boiler.

Dang Nogas, toasty warm, kitchen, restaurant, I know you're in Oh10, but where?

I hope you aren't serving any dishes that have corn in them, it will make the price go up for my heat, ya know.

Let us know the name, maybe when we go through to New York State some day we will stop and stay warm with a good meal.

We are in Cincinnati. The kitchen has an air makeup that is hooked to the hood vent, and it lets a lot of cool air fall to the tile floor. If I had know when we built the kitchen, I would have put pex in the floor first and had some radiant heat there. Shoot me a line is you are passing thru, lunch is on me!

Nogas, you could put a heat exchanger in the makeup air intake. Do you have a fan on the intake or just let the exhaust hood pull air through the intake? Exhaust fans can also raise cane with the draft on the chimney!!

There is a fan. It's to keep the hood vent from sucking all the air inside the building out and forming a vacume inside. The furnace in the basement has outside air mixing in with the cold air duct to help keep the pressure up on the inside.

The basement is so drafty, not to worry about draft.

Glad that you're still happy and at it, Simmerda.

The user video section of the WIKI forum.iburncorn.com/wiki/index.php/Bixby#User_Videos now links to both your video and to this thread.

Thanks, and happy burning!
