TOPIC: quadrafire back burn

quadrafire back burn 1 year, 3 months ago #14255

I have an older model mt vernon. Last night i had set on low setting. This morning, the firepot was full, and pellets were burning back into the feed system.
I thought when this back burn happens, the entire system suppose to shut down.
What could be the problem?Snap disks maybe? Thanks George

Snap disc #3 is suppose to shut the stove down if a fire tries to burn back into the feed system, or push exhaust up the feed tube. the disc could be bad, or it hadn't reached that point yet. You may need to adjust your feed rate. Poor quality pellet fuel, or lack of maintanence can cause this too. kap

Kap, the stove burns ok in any other setting, stove is clean, and i've been using the same pellets now for about a month. So you think i should get a new #3 disk?

It may burn in any other setting, but may have too much fuel for low. Have you checked/ set your flame height according to youy owners manual? And you can test your snap disc by heating it with a lighter to see if it snaps. kap

I would take a leaf blower and clean your venting to be sure there is nothing in there making a restriction. Also reclean your tubes. Mine will backup to the feed tube (1200i) if the unit needs cleaning someplace.

The leaf blower is a great idea, will start doing that with my final spring cleanings...
