Welcome to the forum, kennykole. Ouch on your corn price...I'm with johnlb...where are you that corn is so high?? We just picked up 28 bu. today to finish out the season (Northeast Indiana). Bulk corn is $6.80 a bu, bagged is $9.20 for 50# (needless to say, we DON'T buy the bagged corn). And I thought the bulk rate here was high...

Ahh that makes sense, draft proofer. Corn is about $6.47 here, he must be from upper north east.

I'm from Capron, IL, which about northeast IL. No i called the delongs grains inc. In Sharon, WI. And they said 9.99 per bushel and bagged for 10.49. Their corn are very clean, no dust and any debris. But will go other place to see if I can find a cheaper price.
Wood pellets - cheap price at Menards is 3.49 on sale per 40lb bag.

Oh that thing, yes, a safety switch on the side of furnace. When the powervent goes out, will shut the furnace down. nice feature but its take time to shut the fire down and all the flue smoke will come out from damper draft. Will have to go out side and turn the generator on so will keep all the smoke stay out.

Found another grain company and they charged $6/bu. Some of my friend told me the delongs like to charge more money. They want to make enough money. Hooray! Lot cheaper than Delongs!!

Here some pics of with duct work. All the ducts work were done by me. I built two boxes to fit on the furnace. my local store doesn't have special box to fit on 14"x18". But can get it from furnace store but cost more.

Special damper on corn furnace, in case I ran out of corn, I can use the propane for backup, once the propane turn on, all the heat will go to corn furnace and will loose all the heat too, so I put the danper in it, will close it while the propane is running. When the corn kicks on, will open it. Works very well!
You can see the rod sticking thru the box in this pic. That's where the damper is.

Furnace room, might be little scary for small children now! more duct pipes make look like octopus room! lol

family room in basement!

I think it burns about 2 bu a day.
The low idle is red - 0.5 and green - 0.6. I had 0.2 on red and was using the corn little too fast. Had the fan set properly.
High fire is green - 2.7 red - 1.7. Sounds correct? Fan is blowing correctly. Didn't make any black popcorn but sometimes. After I burned 7 bu and look the ask pan, very little ash! no popcorn, just maybe 1/4 inch of black dust.

Love the pictures. I had a board cut to match the size of a filter and would place the in the NG furnace, but I like the damper better. I want to put 3 dampers with wireless thermostat that will run the furnace, but only put the air were it is needed. Our old 1850's?? building is 4k sq feet, and with the stove running too, some areas get too hot and others not hot enough. Good find of the corn!

In a little defense of the Delong Company.
We purchase about 1/2 of the products for
our store from Delong.
You are correct that they are higher price,
but we have our customers tell us all the
time that they would rather pay the higher
price rather than go to the Big Box store
and get sub standard product.
Another thing that helps us is that Delong
backs their product 100% No questions asked.

One can save alot of $$$ by purchasing corn
from a farmer or ??? and clean it your self.

There is a way you can fix that. Put a Tee in the exhaust facing down, and put another Tee in the bottem end with your draft damper. The smoke will stay higher in the vent and not come out the damper.
