TOPIC: Bellows being off affect flame?

Bellows being off affect flame? 1 year, 6 months ago #11387

Hi Guys The part of the stove that holds the burn pot and the ash drawer needs to be air tight, right? The only air here should come from the intake pipe, right? My flame is disappearing after about 10 mins from startup. The bellows has come lose. Does this need to be attached? Is air entering here causing my flame to disappear?

Thanks everyone
My name is Greg from Massachusetts. I used the old forum a couple times and got some help. I have had this stove for 3 or 4 seasons (MF 115). Bought it on E-Bay for $1500 I think. Love the stove when its working right. It never works right. But sometimes it fools you into believing it is. We heat the entire house with it burning pellets. But our house although 2 levels is quite small. Presently 1/18/2011 the stove is not running and I can't figure it out. So I have returned for more help. This appears to be the only place to get it. And its a great place too. To date parts I have replaced are the exhaust fan speed sensor and ignitors. The Ceramic Ignitors burn out. But fortunatly I found Mr Blume on here. He sold me metal ones for about $60 apiece and they work flawlessly. I have also worked with Ron Anderson. He is a very nice guy. I bought a cable from him with the intention of updating the software to 2.71. But this has been unsuccessful. Went back & forth with Mr Anderson about this problem and he was extremely helpful. But for some reason I can't do it. I also damaged the cable he sent me and will probably need a new one before attempting it again. You guys are great. But I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer about certain things.

Geezer, your on the right track with the stove breathing. The burn plate and ash draw gaskets need to be in good order any air leaks will affect stove burn. Yes you will need to address the bellows as it probably is causing you problems with the stove as well. Make sure your thermocouple wire has not come loose from the board. It's the stiff wire with the American flag sticker on it.

One of the pellet burning guys can help you fine tune the stove. I only burn corn so I'm not much help there.

the bellows can cause some problem but when motor parked it should be shut, i'd check feed wheel for dirt under it and feed wheel seal for being rough or worn through

When my bellows tore apart even in park it was wide open. Caused all kinds of problems.

Thanks Mr Blume. The thermo couple you sent me fixed the problem. And the reprogram to 2.71 of my MB which you did- works great. Up to this lastest problem, the stove never ran better in the 3 or 4 years I've had it. Still had trouble keeping the burn-pot from filling up though. When I saw there were too many pellets in the pot. I just hit the on button and dropped them. But I wasn't watching the ash bin and it filled up, jamming the ash-dump motor. Taking it apart I found my 1st ever "clinker." It was hard as stone and it locked the lower burn pot up. Since then I haven't been able to keep a flame going. Then I noticed the torn bellows. Both the burn plate and ash drawer gaskets are tight. Went to LOWE'S to get my pellets this year because they were cheapest. The name is "Inferno" and I wonder if this is what caused the clinker. I will try to fix the bellows tomorrow and see if it helps.

Thanks OldSchool The Thermocouple is new and hooked up and the gaskets are tight. Yeah that thermocouple was always coming off the board. I put it back on so many times I broke the connector on the thermocouple. Mr Blume sold me another one. I will fix the bellows tomorrow.

Thanks Mary, I thought maybe the ripped bellows might allow air by even when its parked. But wasn't sure. Hope you are feeling better. You sold your stove. But you still come on and pass on the hard-earned knowledge you got while you owned it. I'm GLAD you do!
