further, I have been having trouble with the dump drive switch and brake, could the paddle be misaligned and cause this?

I may have a bad floor plate gasket. could the embers be getting thru there and into my exhaust? I shut it down and pulled the floor plates. the paddles are in the proper position. I noticed the gasket is in rough shape, I will start there. off to tru-value in the AM! firewood stove gasket rope ok for under the floor plates?

it should be a flat rope gasket same thickness, you can usually glue old one back in with red rtv, if it comes up a little short i have rolled aluminum foil, flatened and glued it in must be a good seal or you can get pot overfills

thanks Blume, you are the best. could that cause the sparks coming out of the vent cap?

BTW, my pot is not filling enough. no matter where I set the trim pots. probably the gasket.

No. It's the other way around. Faulty switch or brake cause paddle misalignment. Voici: forum.iburncorn.com/wiki/index.php/Bixby..._to_correct_position .

Regarding the burnplate gasket, you can use red hi temp silicon sealant to secure a new one in place. I've used one brand that dried up and failed within the same season. I re-did using Permatex Copper brand (available from auto parts stores) and it is still holding well after almost 2 seasons.

Regarding sparks, that's new to me. I'm guessing that you're burning pellets and that your exhaust fan rate is very high, yes? Are you also accumulating a deep amount of ash on the burnplate? If yes, perhaps you could consider dialing down the exhaust fan rate. If you don't want to change your air/fuel ratio, then also dial down your feed rate by the same amount.

Bixby Maxfire 115, burning corn, pellets and buckwheat since 2005.

yes sorry, I am burning premium hardwood pellets and yes, ash piles up very quickly! like 2-3 inches in 3 days. I thought it was normal, because of the stove running well. that is, until the floor gasket and ash bin gasket went south.

my settings are exhaust:0
feedrate:+2

figured leave them there till I see what replacing the floor plate gasket does?

also I get a lot of hot embers flying up and out of the pot when pellets drop.

thanks for the response!

sounds like too much air on, with bad gaskets you have to turn up air, i would fix gaskets and start over new bixby gasket 10.00 plus ship
fan running fast could cause sparks

I would set your exhaust fan speed even lower, like a -2 or -3. With the exhaust speed set higher, you not leaving enough ash in the pot to do an ash dump. You could wind up with dumping your fire during the ash dump phase.
