TOPIC: I am getting sparks in my exhaust.

Re: I am getting sparks in my exhaust. 1 year, 4 months ago #13029

Okay, it ran all night and it ash dumped once and we are still good! I would still like to disable the ash dump, if possible.

after the vid I made, Blume said he thought I still had to much air, no satisfying this guy! Just kiddin' Blume!

I did not turn the air back because it was running good. then I thought, wait a minute! we have proved for some reason, that this stove was running way too much exhaust all this time. it ran decent, but c'mon! dust and ashes piling up 2 or 3" in as many days?

anyway, I just this morning at 7am, dialed the air back even FURTHER. Exhaust: -5 Feed: +3.

the flame is a touch slower Blume, and hardly any tiny sparks flying around in there. you can sit there and stare at it for 5 minutes and maybe see 2 sparks in the stove. no where near as much when it drops pellets either. starting to enjoy tuning this thing!

another thing I find weird, but am happy about, is I am using way less pellets now. maybe because when the fire was too fast it burnt more fuel?

Bottom line, you all have created a tuning monster, and a post wh**e lol.

i think you could unplug ash dump motor, the only other way would be to change settings with bix check to 0

where would I do that Blume? on the board or at the drive motor itself? I wonder if she'll kick a warning light and trip the shutdown mode?

id unplug at the motor, not sure what would happen if it triggered dump and it didnt run, think no.7 light may shut down, never tried safest way would be to set with bix check, you need cable for that

Greenstreak, black soot is essentially unavoidable with pellets at a low heat level setting.

Regarding the defeating of the auto ashdump, that's a major feature of the stove. There are people with more basic stoves who envy you . Rather than disabling it, consider doing a hotdump before you go to bed. That should give you 18.5 h / 1.15 = 16.1 h until the next ashdump at heat level 1, feed rate +3 (i.e., 15% more than nominal), or 9.9 / 1.15 = 8.6 h at heat level 6, as shown here: forum.iburncorn.com/wiki/index.php/File:...%28Unofficial%29.jpg .

You can hot dump by manually pushing the ON button. It is best done at heat level 4 and after the firepot has built up some embers.

Either way, here's wishing you a and family a merry and warm Christmas.

my question is will doing a manual dump with the on button, reset the dump timer? Merry Christmas to you and yours, Corny!

it shut down, 3,8 lites. I think behind the feeder wheel and hopper area needs cleaned. haven't done that since last mid season.

Sometimes doing a complete cleaning solves a lot of problems.
You can get fines building up in the hopper messing with your feeder wheel and that will make your feed rate adjustments worthless.
Then with the mild winter we have been having the stoves have been idling much more which plugs up the area around the convection tubes causing the over heating symptoms.
Both of the above problems can "sneak up" and create all kinds of head aches for a person. Burning to rich will also plug the small holes in the bottom plate.
That's why it is important to make sure you do a complete cleaning before you try to adjust for that mystical perfect flame.
