So we gave our almost new Maxfire 120 a good cleaning and put it all back together and turned it one. Made some funny noises and started running with a #2 and #7 lights blinking.

Shut it down. Unplugged for 10 min. Plugged in and waited for it to stop doing anything. Turned back on and it started up seemingly fine except for the #2 and #7 lights. It runs good with the lights blinking but only for about 20 minutes. After that the fire fades down to almost nothing.

I have tried completely shutting down...unplugging..replugging..and running 3 times now. The same result each time. Starts great (with 2/7 blink)...runs great for 15-20 min great....then fades to nothing (on setting 6). The other funny thing is that when I push the off button to shut it down after it's almost out...the starts running great again for several minutes before it shuts down.

Can't figure this thing out...I am so frustrated. I have not even run one full ton of pellets in this thing yet and it's just giving my trouble at every corner.

For the record I do not think it's an igniter. It's something with the burn pot. At one point when it was shut down I took it all apart again and the dump arm was in the open position not closed like it should have been. But that was the only indication of anything and that was several attempts to run ago. Now it looks it the correct position every time and still #2/7 lights and no good fire after 20 minutes. I have tried increasing feed but is not doing anything to help it.

Anyone with any ideas or help out there?? Thanks guys.

Make sure the ash dump arm is seated properly, #2 is operating temp not reached #7 is firepot mechanical malfunction. Another possibility is something else isn't seated right letting to much air around the pot instead of through it so it doesn't reach operating temp.

#2 and #7 could be right igniter failure. Hre's how to check it:

The fire going out after 20 minutes could be simply a tuning problem.

Or it could be a disconnected thermocouple wire, so that the stove shuts down because it doesn't detect a heat rise, thinking there's no fire.

Okay....have confirmed now it is in fact a bad right igniter with some help from firend!!!

Never would have thought it would be since it starts up really quick still with only the left one working.

Plus the fact that it's brand new without even a ton of pellets run in it yet.

Now for some reason I am back to 2/3 blinkers again ...but I guess I just need to tweak the dials again to get that set up.

Anyone changed an igniter before?? Easy or difficult??

Thanks to all for the input as well. Read all links and info you guys posted...much appreciated.

Glad, Jame, that you got to the bottom of it. The replacement procedure is supposedly easy, although I have never tried it. The procedure and tips are available here:

Igniter is easy to change. just remember to switch the ground wire on the igniter and not the stove. otherwise just unplug from the panel- may have to clip a tie strap then using a couple screw drivers pry the rubber gromlet loose on the stove wall. Then remove the bottom grill using either philips screwdriver or allen wrench. Bend a light piece of tin away and pull the igniter out. Unscrew the ground from the igniter and reverse the directions.
But make sure the igniter wire hasn't come loose from a pin due to a bad crimp. I have seen that happen. Check with Blume for replacement igniter as he has the best price and they last longer then the ceramic ones.

Thanks guys. I have verified all the fuses are good.

So now I am trying to determine which wires are the leads to the igniter so I can make sure they are connected well and not bad.

Will keep working on it and let you guys know if I find anything. Keep any thoughts coming....MUCH APPRECIATED TO EVERYONE!!!

Jame, can you follow white wires to the igniter board?

As corny said follow the white wires from the board. You will see a small white plastic air hose with each set of white wires going to the ignter.
The connections on the board will be next to each other only ones side by side.

Okay got the igniter working now. Pulled all fuses (they all looked fine) and connectors to motherboard. Re-connected everything put the fuses back in and followed wires as far as I could. Fired it up and now the right igniter is back on hot and glowing. Something must have been loose I guess or I don't know what.

At any rate....back in action for now. Fingers crossed. Thanks again for all the support guys.
