TOPIC: Anybody burning this year? Not me...

Anybody burning this year? Not me... 1 year, 6 months ago #12132

Decided not to burn this year - corn here is $6.50/bu. Of course LP is $1.90 per gallon, so still probably close to break-even, but I'd rather not mess with all the hassle for break-even. Not tearing out the stove yet - will see what next year brings.

I haven't started yet but I plan to burn this year just not quite as much. the last few years I've been burning between 12 and 13 tons of corn/pellets. I'm probably going to just burn pellets, maybe 6 tons or so and the rest in propane.
with the price of corn the savings is just not there.

Don't be to hasty. Corn here has dropped below $6.00 a bu. You never know how low it may go, or how hi it will go, for that matter.

I'm still burning. Just pellets, not corn. I much prefer corn but can't afford it at $320/ton. I'm hoping corn prices drop.

Definitely! Even at the high price for corn, it's cheaper in upstate NY than either pro-pain or natural gas thanks to all the taxes here. I'll save about 50% off propane or 25% off nat. gas. Plus I'm starving the NY tax beast.

Farmich, I know corn is high, but it is not 320 a ton yet, is it?

I think there is nearly 36 bushel to a ton, so at 6.50/bu a ton is 234.00 which is about what softwood pellets are here in WI.

Well here in Maine its around 22/240 a ton still better than Heating Oil by far which is @ 3.42 a gallon wood pellets are 219 a ton delivered ! and a cord of wood can be had for under 200. but heating with wood is a hassle! I prefer corn still but if it goes any higher Ill go to wood pellets!
