I have an older Harvester with no bronze bushing. After many winters of use, both my shaft and factory steel bushing are shot. Has any body had to re-bush their stove before? I believe I will have to cut a hole through the side to be able to get at it. Any info would be great. Thanks,

I had the same thing happen. Mine seized up completely. Toughest thing is getting it apart. I think I have a write-up of this in the old forum but I can't find it. Basically what you need to do is:

1. Remove the stir motor and chain
2. Remove gear on the end of the stir rod
3. Remove burn pot and stir rod - you may have to use a small pipe wrench to turn it enough to get it to be vertical for removal
4. Remove set-screw collar from remaining shaft
5. Drive shaft out with hammer/any other method you can come up with
6. Use emery cloth/sandpaper on the shaft and inside of the 'bushing'.
7. Trial fit to make sure everything goes back together without binding. Took me 2-3 times on this step to get it cleaned up enough.
8. Re-assemble!

I don't know how close your stove is to the Countryside but the stirrer drive should be close enough that these should give you something to go by.

Countryside 3500P (pedestal version) used 10 yrs, 24/7 during days requiring heat. All original motors. Burns moldy corn, and pellets equally well. Burn it if you got it.

I have a HR-01 serial #1432. I believe that I bought new in 2002-3?

My shaft has seized in the past also. What I had done is clean both the shaft and bushing, then on the shaft I placed washers coated in graphite neverseize, and snugged them up to act as thrust bearings.

This worked at keeping my shaft fairly straight for a few years. Right now my "bushing" is so wore that the drive is running crooked no matter what I do. I need to replace the chain, sprokets, and drive because of the wear from running this way, and when I do I would like to fix this problem. I can not access the "bushing" with a drill from outside the stove, unless I bore a hole in the side panel. My hope is to be able to drill/ream out the factory "steel bushing" and replace with some kind of replaceable bronze bushing. What do you think? Anyone had any like ideas?
Thanks.
