TOPIC: Feed auger motor noisy, ground question..

Feed auger motor noisy, ground question.. 2 years, 2 months ago #8794

Ok, this is the first I am hearing of this ground wire thing.
After season 4 with my Europa I awoke to the feed motor making a helluva alot of noise, only to see that it completely bound up and wasn't feeding pellets.
Thinking the auger was jammed I emptied the stove and took the motor and gearbox off.
The shaft spun so easily, I knew it was the motor or gears.
Took the gear box apart and noticed the grease was caked up and pretty hard.
While taking the gears out I noticed the one gear that sits on a roll pin which sits in a hole, and how the hole was getty sloppy and the gear could shift making contact with the gear housing, causing it to jamb.
Well, I regreased and reassembled everything and it seemed to work fine for a day or two, and now it is making noise again, ALOT of noise, but still turning the auger.
I actually have heard this type of noise before on other motors I have and just assumed they were getting burned out.

What does this ground wire do, clean the line voltage noise?
Where should I ground the wire too?

Thanks...

And I may buy a new motor and gearbox anyway just in case.

Hi Dennis, It seems like all the gearboxes get that way in time, why the lubricant doesn't do the job I don't know.

We run the wire from the motor frame to the ground wire post on the removable panel by the control panel.
This has been recommended by Claude at Paromax.

We normally have the motors in stock.
