Hello all. My distribution fan on my 5 year old PC45 is surging, even the light on the control board dims as it surges. It does not always do it but it is becoming frequent. Would this be a fan issue or a control board issue? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

I'm not sure but the distribution fan is a cheap fix. Look in Grinagers or remove the fan and take it to your local electric motor shop and they can test it for you or you can make a pig tail and plug it in to 110 outlet and see how it runs. If it bogs down more then likely it is the motor. Bearings might be getting bad- check and see if the actual fan is dirty. I'm thinking the actual motor could be bought through Grinagers for aprox 50.00 I think it is a Dayton motor but don't remember the number.

Thanks Rona I'll test the fan. Any idea what a control board goes for these days on a PC45??

Last I heard a new one was close to 200.00 but there is a outfit that rebuilds them cheaper. Lots of times the little knob that regulates the fan speed control and the off and man-auto knob goes bad. They can be replaced fairly cheap if you can solder. 10.00 for all three.
I seen a advertisement in the Harman section of IBC saying they rebuild the boards about a month ago.
Last Edit: 5 months, 2 weeks ago by rona. Reason: improved my suggestion.

i had the same issue with my pc 45. It was the control board. I bought a new one as the outfit that repairs them said no garentee and then i would be out even more money so i bought new. It was $212 canadian for one. I looked at it if it cost 100 bucks to rebuild and then died in 6 months then i was gonna be out 100 bucks more than just buying a new board. Just a though.
2 Harman PC45's Heating our place. Burning the cheapest thing i can.
