Well...that didn't work so well. I gently lifted on the handle and the handle came right thru the powdery ash. The hardware cloth totally burned up to nothing.

Your pellets have that quality cz . When you change brands you could try again. It's normal for mesh to burn up but by then clinker normally will hold togather and lift out in one piece. You warned me you were dealing with dust. I just hadn't seen that in the brands I've used. This may be a bad time but when working with used wires they become more fragile with each use but will last several times if careful. Sooo if your not too discouraged look for a different brand and see what happens.

I will try again with different pellets. No worries. I would rather do some extra cleaning than be without my stove
