Yes, the 300watt would last longer. That is the reason quad came out with them. But they are strictly for pellets. Have you modified the igniter housing yet? balls of fire has pics on a post. Witht these mods, corn starts smoking before it is even done dropping the initial feed. That seems like a fair price. kap

How do you modify the igniter housing? According to Balls of Fire posts, I need to buy the $65 new pot (SRV7034-072).

Look at his pics and specs. Take your pot out and cut out the same dimensions in the igniter housing. Lots of us have done it. I used a dremel tool with a cutting disc on it.

I went by my dealer at lunch. The new pot with gasket and new igniter was $100. I was already going to spend $50 on the igniter anyway. The box says March 2010. I'm hoping this would be the new pot/ igniter housing design.

I didn't realize I could mod my current pot. Oh well, an extra $50 for a new pot won't kill me. My dealer did call Quad while I was there. They said they are no longer giving the upgraded pots away under warranty for older models.

Also, the dealer told me now the pot kits are no longer coming with a new igniter, but still $100. He gave me an "older" one that did have the igniter.

Easy enough to tell if it is the new model pot by looking at the housing.

Yeah it's the new style, bigger slot on front and another new slot on back. Got everything installed. All good.

The corn starts smoking about as soon as it hits the pot now and the fire starts in 1/2 the time as it was before. HUGE IMPROVEMENT as far as lighting goes. We'll see about the igniter.

I came home last night to a cold house as my Mt. Vernon AE was out and had an error on the thermostat screen. The ash pan was 1/4 full of new pellets so I figured there was a problem with it lighting and that was confirmed by retrying the lighting sequence. No heat from the igniter. I have seen a couple of post what mention a continuity test on the heating element. So if I understand correctly, you should have continuity between the leads. Is that correct? I have taken the element out and have no continuity between them
The stove was installed in Nov of 2008. This is the first problem I have had with this stove. It's been great.

Thanks

Yup, no continuity, no lighty! Pick up a spare just to have on hand.

The igniter on my AE went out on Dec. 31. Once the local store opened back up Jan. 2, I went in and bought a new igniter. They charged me $96 dollars for the thing. Talk about sticker shock! I felt a bit gouged.
