Corns been way too expensive to burn for years. Last year, natural gas was cheaper to burn then pellets. Don't look to be that way this year.

Hi Kap, glad to be back! I hear ya on the corn. I wonder if it will ever be low enough to burn again. I have been storing most of my winters supply last spring, where I got most of my pellets around 150 - 160 a ton. We are trying to sell the business, so if the new owner wants to burn biomass, it's all his. If not, glad to take it all down and take with me. Can't beat the heat for the price (when cheep fuel is available)

Yes, glad to be starting up the furnace again (St Croix). I like the more even heat compared to propane, and the hands-on aspect of it. I raise about 8 acres of corn and that's enough to sell the excess, recover my costs, make a little profit, and have 'free' heat for the winter. -- Dave

Nice. Looking to purchase several acres with next house. Would like to do a couple acres of corn for burning, or sell and buy pellets.

Planted a little less than two acres this spring, then a BIG drought here, but I am in clay (heavy soil) so I have some corn to pick. Kinda fun to provide my own heat....

I am burning pellets this winter. Got 4 ton sitting in the polebarn. But I sure do miss corn.

The national average cost per them of NG energy is down again over last year.
Just a minor amount - but it isn't more expensive. What may have been misconstrued - is that the heating season degree day load this year is going to be average - vs last years load was well below average

so folks say -- OH its going to cost more!

I have some corn left from couple years ago that I will mix with pellets when things get real cold. Bought the corn for 4.40. Just humped another ton of pellets into basement that were on sale for 169/ton. Propane or fuel only option here and propane yesterday was 1.39 gallon.
Have had to fire stoves everyday now for a week as temps not above 50. It sucks as last year did not fire till November. Ten or so degrees below normal. Going to be a expensive long winter at this rate. Early warm spring is what helped economy this year.

I just go by my therm cost from last years to this. 1.05 last year to this years 1.59. Use the chart and pellets are cheaper.
