Just did the fuel cost comp. chart, and with Natural gas at 1.09 a therm,it is cheaper to run furnace then burn pellets. I am going to use furnace mostly, and save the pellets for when the gas gets higher.

Wish I had access to NG, being all electric sucks. Couldn't you have a ng car and fill up at home?

I also have heat pumps and discovered last year that, unless the temps got down to below 40, the heat pump was still cheaper to run given that it still has a better than 100% efficiency. Hearing the heat pump running all night is also a driving force to get up and turn on the stoves!!!!

I use this comparison because it also lets you look at the effects of the hot air delivery system. Mine sucks and needs upgrading! www.buildinggreen.com/calc/fuel_cost.cfm

But you will miss the stoves and the heat.

I have been saying the same thing the past couple of years but I keep buying pellets anyway.

I guess it is an addiction!

I didn't say i totally stopped using the stoves. Gots to have my fire now and then. And, i got 3 1/2 pallets of pellets stashed. Yes, it is an addiction.

Just found out that the NG is now on in town. Will get things switched over later this month. No matter what the cost difference pellets will be burned downstairs, NG in the stove upstairs and fuel oil in the furnace. I kinda like the "diversity"!

Sting, What kind of coal burner do you have? The one place that had them around here went out of business( they also had other stoves). I hear they burn hot.
