I bought a nice used Mt Vernon Non AE and put it in the shop for a little clean up and refurb...gaskets, cleaning, etc.

Upon trying to start it up now, I'm having problems. When plugging it in, I make sure tstat isn't calling for heat...let it go through it's 18 minute cycle and wait for the exhaust blower to shut off. During this the blue light in control box blinks in the beginning.

I turn it to "quad", call for heat with tstat, and the exhaust blower kicks in, but that's all. I get a flashing orange light in the control box...3 flashes then a pause...and repeats continually.

I replaced the burn pot gasket and I'm wondering if I damaged the thermocouple in the process. I double checked that the cover was on completely and making contact with the thermocouple and get the same issue. The igniter never comes on so the rest of the sequence is stalled....no pellet feed or anything.

Bad thermocouple?

The blue light is telling you what setting the control box is on. One blink is standard, two blinks is +10% on feed, and 3 blinks is -20% on feed. With the flashing light, it sounds like a thermocouple. Since you double checked that the cover was touching inside on the end, i would say the wires got damaged getting bent to far or something. Kap

Making progress but still not running. I jumpered the vacuum switch and this got me farther....stove started feeding pellets but no ignition. I blew through the vac hose and reconnected wires. I hooked the ignitor up to a patch cord and it glowed red. Hooked it back up and refired stove. Vac problem fixed and augering fuel, but no ignition. The ignitor not glowing so something not telling it to go.

Next things to check, please?

Light it manually to see if the thermocouple works.Make sure you have enough fuel. When you turn up the thermostat, the red call light should come on. After fire is going, when thermostat senses 200 degrees, green light will come on in control box. when it reaches 600*,red light will come on. If lights don't come on, i will still say thermocouple. I would also unplug stove, make sure the control box is seated properly, and plug back in. Sometimes in moving, they can jiggle loose just enough. You can also back track wires to igniter, and see where there is or isn't juice. Just remember that it is only on for so many minutes. You would have to hit reset button to activate power again.

If you know electrical, you can test the thermocouple to see if it is bad or not. Usually, flashing light in control box is dead give away for bad one. Reason i didn't have you jump vac switch too.

New thermocouple arrived today. Quick install and she fired right up. It's amazing the heat this thing puts out and even more amazing how it ejects the ash out of the burn pot. Here's a pic of it burning on low right after start up.

Glad you are up and running. Sometimes, carbon deposits will build up on the pot floor, and make it difficult to open. Time to do a little scraping then to remove it. Don't try to force it, or you can damage things. Kap
