TOPIC: CB1200 Insert Stopped feeding pellets,

CB1200 Insert Stopped feeding pellets, 3 months ago #17854

Got a surprise when I got home yesterday, the call light was on, hopper was empty, loaded a new bag of pellets and hit the re-set button, but I didn't hear any pellets falling into the pot. Looked at the pot and it was overfilled with un-burnt pellets. I cleaned the pot and tried to re-start but I got nothing. The exhaust fan kicks in but no pellets. I've read the other posts about a vac leak somewhere in the system. I did jump the two terminals on the vac switch and it still didn't kick the feed motor on. How easy is it to pull the feed motor, how would you check it? Stove is 4 years old, not sure what to check next.

Vent pipe- Brushed and cleaned in December, re-cleaned today.
Door gasket- new in December 12
Exhaust motor gasket - Replaced today
Door latches - 1 replaced in December 12
Drop tube - Clear? It did dump all the pellets in the hopper into the pot.
Vac hose - removed and checked today, no cracks or not blocked.

As always, thanks for your advise!

Check and see if #2 snap disc is tripped, and has a reset button on it, you need to push. Am curious as to why the pot was full of unburned pellets, but no fire. Try jumping the vac switch again, but make sure it is the wires more then the terminals on the switch in case of bad connections. Auger is easy enough to pull. Main thing is hopper is empty. You can test for power to auger motor with it pulled by turning thermostat up, and seeing if auger turns. Just remember that it will only run for 60 seconds(initial feed time), and you will have to hit reset button for more testing. And if hopper was empty, it will take a couple of resets to get enough fuel thru auger to start dropping. Is yours new enough that it has the hopper door sensor that shuts off the auger if hopper door is open? I can't remember when Quad started doing that on all their stoves. Stay in touch. Kap

Not exactly sure where # 2 snap disc is located? I see two on the left side of the stove above the exhaust motor. I assume they are #1 and # 2? I will jump the vac switch again. I took the red and balck wires off of the vac switch itself and used a piece of wire and shoved on end in each of the red and black terminals. Is there a better way? Also with the feed motor, I do have the hopper empty but not seeing an easy way to remove the motor and auger. I will try jumping the vac switch again. There is not a switch on the hopper door. I have my fingers crossed!

Sounds like you jumped the switch the right way.

Just tried to jump the vac switch again. This time I took my time and made sure I had good contact between the wire and the terminal. The feed motor started to turn. So it sounds like a vac issue. Is there a way to check the actual vac switch? When I had the vac line off, there was some dust or ash that I blew out. Thanks again Kap!

Now you need to make sure the exhaust path is clear. This means the stove exhaust path, and the exhaust pipe. You blew out the hose, still need to check nipple. You just replaced door gasket and latch, so shouldn't be that but check anyway. A vacuum has to be created in firebox, to make a connection in vac switch, to send power to auger. It could even be bad terminal connections on vac switch. If all of the above is ok, then it will be the switch itself. To check switch, you can put some gentle suction on nipple of switch do close baffle. While doing this, do a continuity check on terminals. If no continuity, switch is bad. You can run with the switch bypassed if need be(insert disclaimer here as this is a safety device). Stay in touch. Kap

It ended up being a clogged nipple on the drop tube. ( Just like you mentioned before ) Anyway thanks again for all the help!
