This is my first post here... I used to be a regular lurker on the old site.

I recently purchased a 4 year old Greenfield stove (build date 5/06). The PO used it just for corn.

I got two burn pots with the stove but I don't know which to use for pellets. I will be using pellets with this stove as I also have Pepin.

The Pepin is now in the house... I plan on installing the Greenfield in the house with the Pepin going into my shop.

Can anyone tell me what pot to use with the pellets?

I can take a few pics of the pot in my Greenfield next time I have it shut down for cleaning.

I asked my dealer about a pellet pot and his response was that he ordered one for a customer in the past and couldn't really see any significant differences between the two. I know 2 people who are burning pellets this year in their Greenfields with the corn pot without any trouble.

There must be some difference and reason to have 2 though. Can you post a pic of the two pots?

Hey Krooser, When I purchased my Auburn 7 or 8 years ago I ordered the pellet pot so I could burn both corn and pellets. In earlier times St Croix offered a pellet pot that was quite shallow with a grate and a scrapper to scrap ash into the ash pan. I've tried using this pot with very little success as it tends to overload. On newer stoves, St Croix has gone to the old corn pot style ( rectangular deep pot) with removable side extensions for pellets. I've since modified my old corn pot by cutting off the side extension so that I can burn pellets safely and fabricated a new removable set so that I can reinstall for corn.
Hope this helps.

That's right Nuclear! The new Auburns come with a removable metal piece that is supposed to be used when one is burning corn. You remove this when you burn pellets.

Just curious if you ever come home with a slight "glow" from your nuclear work? I bet there's a lot of testing going on!!

Thanks for the help guys... I think one of the pots has the removable sides... I'll try that one first.

One fella over on hearth.com told me he doesn't think I will have good luck burning pellets in this corn stove... can't see why. I kinda think he has some issues with St Croix stoves as a whole...

Hey Krooser and Happy Birthday!!!!

Whoever told you that the St. Croix corn stove can't burn pellets, well is LOCO!!!We have quite a few Auburns out running (we sell them) and some run 100% corn, some with a mix and some with only Oak pellets. None have had any issues. Actually the Auburn is one of the stoves with the least issues. They have an excellent DVD available that shows how to clean and maintain the stove.

So yeah, this guy must have some issue with St. Croix but he's missing out on a good unit and should not be bad mouthing something he's not familiar with.

When in doubt, Use the Leaf Blower!!!

Well I have the stove installed in my shop and it's been running all night.

I had some problems getting the fire to keep going at start-up but using more pellets and gel seemed to do the trick. I miss not having a variable speed fan rheostat like on my analog-board St Croix Pepin...

I'm heading out to the shop soon just to check on the stove... and to see how warm the shop is. the thermometer said 50F last night but I'm not certain the room was that warm...

The stove has been running now for 24 hours.

I had to shut it down and do more cleaning behind the firebox this afternoon...and I found a torn/missing chunk of ash pan gasket so i fixed that, too.

The stove is on #5 just eating the hell out of my pellets... going to keep it going for a few days straight to see how it does. The shop is s-l-o-w-l-y warming up.....
