TOPIC: Moon - Glo by Cornstoves Inc - the resurection

Moon - Glo by Cornstoves Inc - the resurection 2 years, 6 months ago #364

Well here she is. I saved this thing from the trash heap. After 2 weeks of work and education I was able to get it to run and not smoke us out.

I will post up some of our accomplishments and problems that persist in another post. My biggest challenge with this machine was getting it clean. Once I found all the nooks and crannies the machine ran great. The only money I had it the thing was for exhaust piping until the control board fried see other post for that story.

Until then this is what it looks like and it pumps (pumped) out great heat

Hi TFC,

That stove sure looks like it is solid. I am curious if your exhaust pipe is carbon steel? Corn exhaust is very corrosive, if yours is carbon, you may want to keep an eye on it. Especially the last foot outside.

Its solid for sure, super heavy. It took 2 of us with a dolly to move the sucker.
As for the pipe thanks for the tip. Before I invest in a SS pipe I just had the local muffler shop bend me up some 3". I figured it would rot out but a small investment into an outfit that I wasn;t even sure would work. Remember I got this things as scrap so 1st priority was getting it to move. All 3 motors were seized up and it was super dirty.
If I can get it to run for 1 season I will get some stainless bent up.

You may also want to consider a fire break to that plastic wall

I saw that too. Might want to put a few pieces of drywall up to prevent a fire incase that plastic falls down on the stove or exhaust............

Agreed. You can't see just to the left of the frame the plywood that I have staged to go up.

Still no new circuit board maybe the mail man will bring joy tomorrow.

It would have helped last week to take the chill off in the evening but it got mild on Sunday and has held pretty good. If my conversions are up to snuff I would put us at 8 celisius which is approx 54F ??

The week that I did have it running I found that it helped alot in taking the dampness out. Especially since I have it rigged up in the basement.

New "old" board arrived today. Installed in 20 minutes and we were off to the races.

The new board was identical but it did have some different settings. Anyone have any idea what these little blue boxes control or do? I set them up like my old one and its running just wondering if anyone knows what they are. The donor machine had different settings and came from a Winston pellet stove.

The blue switches are called dip switches and are probably used to change timer settings.
