Has anyone thought about burning coal in their Maxim? I was just wondering with the cost of corn and who know what pellets will do. I was thinking about calling CB and asking them about it. Cheap fuel, if you can get it ground up to about the right size I don't know why it wouldn't work fine.

good thought JD, I was kind of wondering what I may be burning next year also with corn going out of site and pellets seems like there staying just a step behind corn........I'll admit i don't know anything about coal except maybe it burns hotter.

I've thought about it. Rice coal would fit nice. Don't have a local dealer. I think mixing in during the cold days would work. If I could have found a fifty pound bag I would have tried it.

I really liked the acorns but a pain to collect and the picker machines are expensive.

The buckwheat sounds interesting but we don't have any wheat this year.

If corn is 8 dollars by next heating season I may be burning more soy bean stalk pellets.

They burn good. Slight smoke on occasion. Ash not much more than pellets. Heat seemed good.

Remove chopper and have the local pellet mill make some.

Well the local pellet mill would be in my barn. No other mills in the area will have to try it have made corn stalk pellets paper pellets and other crop residue waste all seems to work well. Thanks.
