As always, I'm sure there is more than 1 way to skin a cat....without getting clawed to death.

Has anyone ever tried to slow a Taco pump down with a ceiling fan speed controler or light dimmer? Is there anything electronical in the pump that would not like less energy? Just a passing thought, might be cheeper than getting a 3 speed pump.

So a simple ceiling fan speed control will not work with this?

Maybe this is best served if I answer your question with another

What are you wishing to accomplish?

Well, got a non contact thermometer and after looking at the temps, was wanting to slow down the flow to the heat exchanger so it could scrub off a little more heat, so I can get a little closer to that 20* drop from supply to return temp. I have a feeling the water is moving just a little toooo fast.

You can do that by slightly closing the valve on the supply side of the circulator - NOT the valve on the suction side

or -- if one circulator is pumping several loops - slightly close the valve on the supply to the load.

I have some closes slightly and some close almost completely to balance the 18 hi temperature loops on my system

The low temperature loops are also balanced in this way

Than is why I was asking about a choke valve when I was finishing up the piping. I don't have any shut off valves on my system. She just goes with the flow. I figured I could slow the pump down a little to adjust delta T.

Yes I recall suggesting you use a GLOBE valve for this if you could afford to

You did put isolation valves on both sides of the pump in case you need to service it right ?? the supply side valve may be used to choke flow

Doohoo Nope. If I need to get to the pump, I just drain off a little water and unscrew to remove. No shut off valves on the system. Everything else is down hill from there.
