We've recently finished the inside of our detatched garage (720sq ft) and are considering a small corn/pellet stove for heat. We already heat our home with a biomass furnace so the fuel is always here. The structure is well insulated with about R49 overhead and seems to hold temp well. I'm only looking to maintain 45 to 50 degrees through winter, but want the ability to warm it up more when we want to do something out there.

Floor space is at a premium because there are so many other things that need to be in the garage. The Magnum Baby looks like a decent fit and I can get one at a decent price. It appears that the stoves features will allow me to run low and slow and/or thermostat with auto ignite, etc.

The question: Can I direct vent horizontally straight out a wall with a horizontal termination cap or do I need to use some sort of power vent system?

Better check with your insurance company before putting an open flame heating appliance in your garage. If they say yes typically they need to be on a platform up off the floor where gas fumes may collect. Yes it can direct vent out the wall.
