Does anyone have the harman xxv or the mt.veroman quadarafire. We were thinking of getting one.Just wanted to know what you think of it.We are trying to decide between the xxv, harman or the mt.vermon, quadrafire. We will be heating with pellets mostly but can use corn also. Our home is a big old farm house 2200 square feet.We will be placing it in the living room and use some kind of fan for the up stairs. We havent figured the fan idea out yet.I would realy appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

I BOUGHT A HARMAN INSERT LAST NOVEMBER AND LOVE IT. VERY LOW MAINTENANCE , EASY TO CLEAN, HEAVY DUTY CAST IRON. I HEAT A RANCH WITH 2300 SQ FT. HAS A THERMOSTAT ON IT AND YOU CAN ADJUST THE FAN LOW, MED, HIGH, LOOKS GOOD AND WORKS GREAT. I SEE THE ONE YOU ARE LOOKING AT HAS A BIG 65 # HOPPER. YOU'LL LOVE THAT. HARMAN'S AREN'T CHEAP BUT I BELIEVE THE EXTRA MONEY IS WORTH NOT HAVING THE HEADACHES.

GOOD LUCK,
ohio

Thank You Craig for the input on the Harman.Have you had any problems with your stove yet?I read on this forum that some people say that the harman does not have good service.I am old school and believe in good service. If I may ask you. What is your take on their service?I don't mind paying a little more if the service is good. The stove looks beautiful but we still are cofused over which stove to get. Thanks again for your thoughts and ideas. They will go a long way in helping us make our minds up.

The service you will receive will be from a reliable deal, from whom you will purchase the stove. I have the PC45 with burns corn, pellets and all kinds of grain. After 7 years, all I had to do is replace the igniter this year.

NO PROBLEMS SO FAR.BURNING 24/7.SHUT IT DOWN ONCE A WEEK TO GIVE IT A GOOD CLEANING. NOGAS GAS IS RIGHT ON GETTING YOUR SERVICE FROM A GOOD DEALER. WHERE YOU DECIDE TO BUY IS IMPORTANT. CHECK OUT THERE SERVICE. SEE IF THEY ACTUALLY SERVICE IT OR CONTRACT IT OUT TO SOMEONE ELSE. SEE IF THEY HAVE A WEB-SITE, CHECK REVIEWS IF ANY. I BELIEVE KEEPING IT CLEAN KEEPS IT RUNNING SMOOTHER AS WELL. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BURN CORN BE SURE THE STOVE YOU PICK CAN BURN IT, OR AT LEAST 50/50 WITH PELLETS. IT TAKES A FEW DAY DAYS TO GET IT TUNED TO YOUR COMFORT ZONE, SO A LITTLE PATIENCE IS NECESSARY.

Hey Craig and Nogas,
I just wanted to say Thank You again for your input.I wish someone with a Mt.Vernon AE-Quadrafire would give me a little input.I read on this forum and it seems they have alot of igniter problems.I was wondering if this was normal for all stoves or if it is just the Quadrafires. It sounded that one burned out every year. Can that get expensive or are igniters cheap? I was also wondering do you have to give your stove a yearly tune up with your dealer?,like your house furnance.Do you know also if the Harmen co.makes a battery back up or do you need a generator?I know Quadrafire makes a battery back up.We will be going to 2 different dealers this coming week.I will keep you informed whats happening.I am sure I will have alot more questions. Thanks Again I know it takes time to answer my questions.

HARMON DOES HAVE A BATTERY BACK UP. NOT SURE IF IT WORKS ON ALL MODELS SO BE SURE TO ASK YOUR DEALER TO EXPLAIN. I DECIDED NOT TO GET ONE BUT IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE. I HAVE A BACK UP PROPANE FIREPLACE THAT REQUIRES NO ELECTRIC. I BELIEVE THE BATTERY BACK UPS AREN'T CHEAP. $200 - $400 ? I HAVE ONLY HAD MY INSERT FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. NO TUNE UP SO FAR. I DO PULL IT OUT FROM THE WALL TWICE A YEAR AND GIVE IT A GOOOOOD CLEANING AND LOOK OVER. SO FAR SO GOOD.
LET US KNOW WHAT YOU DECIDE ON.

The battery back up will be for keeping the stove running. It won't pull enough power to light with the igniter. The stove's motors will run just a little slower than regular AC. You can get an 800 watt from many places, Sam's club has them for around $80. You need a deep cell battery or two depending on how long you plan to keep it running. Run them in series to increase your watt hours. Harman has simular product (3rd party) on their web.

As far as the igniter, if you have the stove constantly starting and stopping, you will burn one out in about a year. If you start the stove and keep it burning at a nice even pace, it will last a while. Mine lasted 7 years, and was replaced by me for $75.

Good for you. Harman makes a great stove and I hope you get years of trouble free use. After you have had some time to break it in, let us know how it's going.
