Has anyone ever tried to manufacture pellets using some kind of extruder mounted on an log splitter?

Never heard of anyone using a log splitter. There was a time a few years back there were folk importing pellet mills from china and trying to sell them to make a buck. I had already geared up to import my own along with a hammer mill then found out that they make a crappy pellet (too loose) so abandoned the whole project. I was planning on using field waste, like corn stalks and bedding hay, whatever was cheap. I turns out a good mill will set you back a bunch of bucks, unless something has changed in the last few years. If you give it a try, let us known what happens.

Thank for the reply, you are correct on that one. The inexpensive mills appx.($3000.00) are not impressive at all. I will post more about the use of the splitter as I develop some more ideas. That's a nice thing about this site as it always keeps you thinking.

It would be possible to make briquettes with the splitter and some work but pellets are a whole different thing I have built my own pellet mill by purchasing dies and rollers from a Chinese mill and built the rest it does work well some material works better than others. Right now I need to build a second mill because I have way more material to process that what one mill can handle in my available time frame.I'm processing grain cleanings from my seed business corn/ sunflower/ oats/ wheat, buckwheat etc.

Thanks Farmer1, I had searched on line for building my own pellet mill and found yours on you tube, you are actually the reason that I'm here. The Mill you built is and exceptional example of what someone can do when they put their mind to it. Procuring the materials locally is difficult now with every body out there collecting and scrapping metal. I hope to eventually cobble together the materials to make an attempt at duplicating the one you built. I would like to use it to make leaf pellets, living in New England there is an overabundance of raw materials. Good luck whith your second mill, I hope that you will be posting it on here as well.

I did make a few leaf pellets and they where very easy to make good luck if you ever have any ? just ask im only a phone call or e-mail away.
