My wife can get them through her work at a discount and if I remember correctly the highest end one would cost us around $600 with her discount.
From the pics above the grills you guys have are a lot smaller than the ones I had seen, more workable for the average home owner.

Hey JA maybe you should add a wine/beer/food area. I would bet that most of the people on here delve into these things, then I wouldn't have to jump around to other websites for recipes. Just a thought.

Corny, I am not sure if a pellet grill is the right thing, but the gas grill I have now doesn't heat very evenly, so maybe it is time for something differently.

The food looks great on the other posts.

Thanks, Maac. I could understand doing it for the fun, novelty or perhaps the quality and maybe even the environmental responsibility. Good luck with your research and your purchase if you go that route.

How much are those Big Green Eggs? Their web site is a little dodgy about the actual cost.

They are a little pricey. But the results are amazing. I first found out about them when a guy at work brought one in and cooked pulled pork sandwiches and jalapeno poppers. Everybody that I have cooked for on it that has come to visit has really liked everything, and has even noticed the difference in the 2 bbq's that I have.

I have what is called the large egg, which is one step down from the XL Egg.
I have this exact set up that is in the below link along with a cover, a plate setter and a couple other accessories and paid $1000. Price seems steep but I enjoy bbq and cooking. You can cook pizza, dessert and all kinds of stuff on the egg. The opportunities are endless. If I remember correctly the egg (Large) just by itself without the legs and shelves is about $700. Some people build their own setup to hold the egg.

Couldn't figure out how to edit. Noticed that I accidently put two identical links. Ment to put a link to what is called a plate setter. Which I thought to be a handy accessory.

Fair 'nuf, JA. Thanks for the warning. I'm prob'ly one of the worst culprits who edits and re-edits his posted messages for grammar and clarity. You have given us additional incentive to use the Preview feature when composing messages.

I don't know how other grills work. But one thing I like about the green egg is that when your done cooking you can close off the airflow at the top and bottom and it smothers the fire. That way you don't burn through all your charcoal. Then on the next burn you just stir the charcoal, the ash drops through to the bottom and then add new if necessary.
