Corny, I was just thinking out loud (which gets me in trouble once in a while).
I did follow your thread on the old forum and if I were using a wagon that is what I would do.

Allenelson,The farmer I get my corn from is myself. I had someone else running the combine this year and I think they were pushing it a little faster and had the sieves open a little to far.

may have to experiment and see what I can come up with.. Looks like a trip to Menards tonight.

John, I'm thinking that the same general idea would work for suction with a wand if a cage of some sort were built at the wand's intake to prevent entry of larger particles.

I don't want to discourage you from your project, though. I'm anxious to see what you come up with.

Here is the mess I came up with. works well but had to slow down the corn coming in due to the 15° angle with the top unit, bottom unit still at 45°. Any more angle all the corn ended up in the trash collection area. This slowed the corns migration to the bottom unit and if fed to fast would plug up. My next project is to put a small pneumatic vibrator on the top unit to see if I get the clean corn to move faster into the bottom unit. As you can see I am no artist!!! A work in progress...

Ok, John, you got me thinking, and for me too, that can be dangerous. LOL
I built the first Kan_Burn cleaner years ago, and still using it to this day.

After lookin at your picture, it gave me an idea. What if you had a curved screen like the shape of a gutter inside and the bottom would be level with the pipe to catch the bigger cob pieces and stalks. The corn would drop thru and the junk would continue down into the collector. How much were you able to transfer and how long did it take? How strong of a vac are you using? Though, my last load of corn this year was so clean, I had less than a baggy of cob and stalk from 2800# of corn. Was blessed by being there on a real windy day and clean corn in their holding tank.

Nogas,I'm using a 6hp vac with a 14' vertical rise. was moving about a 1/2 bu/min using a corn vac. now to get it to flow and clean properly I'm at 6 minutes/bu. My suction pipe is 1 1/2" stainless flex exhaust pipe. speed is not a big deal as I can walk away and let it run,BUT I want it to work as fast as before and do the job I want.

call me mentally challenged (wife says I'm fricken nuts),but it keeps me out of the saloon..

That's quite the contraption, John! I hope that it doesn't drive you to the saloon.

I'm wondering if you could improve throughput by increasing the coarseness of the 1/2" screen. Perhaps try a 1/2" x 3/4" or maybe a 1/2" x 1" mesh? That would still keep the 1/2" cob pieces out but it would be significantly less opaque to the corn. For testing purposes, you might try different degrees of overlap of two pieces of 1" x 1" mesh. By varying the overlap, you could control the size of openings for the corn. Please keep us posted.

Btw, your artwork isn't as bad as you think .

Corny, the problem isn't getting the corn through the screen,it's getting it to flow down the pipe to the wye with any amount of volume. I think even if I had used 6" pvc at that 15° angle flow would still be a problem. Waiting for the pneumatic vibrator to see if that will cure the flow.

time will tell

15 degrees is below the critcal angle of repose for corn, which can be in the order of 23 degr or more depending upon moisture and other conditions www.iburncorn.com/component/content/arti...news/11-corn-storage . If you increase the screen gaps, then you mightn't need such a shallow angle and perhaps not a vibrator. I'm thinking that with a steeper angle, say 25 degr to 35 degr, the corn would flow to the wye more readily.

EDIT: Also, if you cut a transparent window into the large Kb body, you'd be able to see the dynamics of corn flow and accumulation inside.

On the plus side, your first prototype works ( ) and you're now moving quickly in optimizing its performance. Not too shabby!

I've never built a can burn before so i don't really know what i'm talking about but I was thinking that 90 degree elbow looks like it would really slow down the flow.

You might have something there Bone, maybe using some conduit wide sweeping 90 degree turns may speed things up a bit.

John, do you have the combo grounded? That can make a big difference too. Keep it coming, this is great.
