This probably has no interest to anybody else but me, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

On the old forum we had a post about whether a 1/2 ton pickup could hold a ton of pellets/corn.

well these are the before and after pic's of my F150 that I took today.
one empty and one with a ton of pellets in the back. it really wasn't to bad you could tell it was loaded but it wasn't floating.

I do have to add that I had two broken leafs in the spring on the passenger side so I had the broken ones replaced and had the guy add a extra leaf on each side it definitely was worth it.

My thought...yeah, a ton will fit...but should you haul it?? Dangerous to lessen your steering ability even a little, especially on snow. How far did you have to drive with that load, Tinman?

Looks like its holding the load good to me. But I carried 3000# with my old Toyota T100 pickup all the time so maybe I'm not the one to ask... I treat my trucks like a mule.

I haven't hauled a ton of corn in my 1/2 ton chevy yet, but I have hauled a ton of fill sand several times. It seems to handle it pretty good. Have also hauled 10 square of asphault shingles 70 miles in my 1/2 ton. I think they weighed about 2200 lb. Probably not too good on the suspension, but it works.

Yes it can carry 1 Ton of pellets or Corn. Have 92 F150 Short Bed Stick, rusty and high miles. I have about 20 miles to pick up bagged corn from farmer and also same to pick up a pallet of pellets (2000#) Been doing this for years. Also careful how I load it. As much as I can I pile up the bags as close to the cab as possible to balance the load on the springs as best I can and not have an overhang load out back. Only problem I have had is replace the clutch (needed it before I am sure as I do not baby the old truck. I use original springs. I am sure over time this would affect the performance of the truck (and possibly safety)but for the few trips I make (8 per year)seems to work for me. Important Note--Inflate the tires to max allowable on side of tire. If you can do as I do and use 40 PSI--Check tires for heat after run (hot means tire over stressed.) Happy Hauling. PS--Seems to note where I live that you can overload a F150 With Leaf springs but not one with Coil springs and also like on a Chevy.

steady I did have about a 25 minute ride so it wasn't close but the roads were clear and the steering wasn't a problem.

I was more worried about something breaking on the suspension, lots of rusted parts back there or worst yet the trans going the truck has 186k on it.

but all in all it did ok and i'll probably do it again in a few weeks. with corn over 200 a ton and I can get pellets for 167 a ton.

The brakes aren't designed for that kind of load. You're driving slowly and are allowing much more braking distance and tailgate distance?

Tinman, Where you gettin the pellets from? Ben's? I went to TSC yesterday and asked for 6 bags, when I went to the sidelot, to pick them up , they where a new brand, Smith's Creek, you would think with a name like that, they would be great:laugh: , but they are a mix of hard and soft wood and do not burn all that well.
