Does anyone have an outdoor pellet/corn burner? Is so what are the pros and cons, and also what kind do you have? Thanks!

It doesn't have to be specifically an out door boiler. You can put a boiler like LDJ in a shed, or one that is built to be outdoors. This will make your choices broader. How much square feet are you trying to heat? Are you using a boiler in your house now? How many BTU is you current boiler? How are you going to use the new boiler..ie water coil in the furnace, DHW, radiators, radiant floor heat, swimming pool?

The size and type may depend upon your requirements. You don't want to go way over the size you need, but you don't want to undersize your unit. Good luck!

I have one. Not sure how many manufactures make them anymore. Small hiccup yesterday with a back burn, but the protective systems worked. No real issues in 4 years.

To buy one today might be cost prohibitive.

We have a 10 year old ranch, 1800 sq ft up...and down. We have a forced air furnace, would like to heat the water tank also. Just starting to look into them, so not sure what to look for. Thanks for any help! We also have 5 acres, and large pole barn..

Ok, now we are getting somewhere. You are also going to have the cost of putting insulated pex lines in the ground and into the house. Once in the house, a secondary loop to the furnace and another to the water heater. A furnace coil for water to air exchanger, and to the hot water heater, a side arm or water to water exchanger. Pumps, controlers, piping, and odds and ends, you are looking at another $1500+, plus the cost of the boiler. If you haven't worked with hot water, should get some books by Dan Holoran to understand the best way of plumbing these things to get the most out of them. If you can find a good used unit, that would be a start, but make sure you know what your in for.

By the way, mine is in the basement, and the 1 1/2 black iron primary loop and 1 1/4 loop to the furnace provides a lot of heat to the basement. Something to think about.

+1. Maybe lots more than 1500 with insulated pex at $12+ per foot.
