TOPIC: how were crops in your area?

how were crops in your area? 6 months, 3 weeks ago #15822

Here in east central ia it was all over the board but not good. I had from 15 to 35 bushel to acer on corn ad 10 to 40 on beans. Although had about best oats ever about 100 to acer. Not much hay what I have is real nice but not much.

I'm in Green Bay and it's all over the board, just depends where you farm. 20 miles west of here the corn is great. 15-20 miles SE, terrible.

Some areas got consistent rain, if only when really needed, other areas got close to nothing.

$7.10 a bushel from my farmer, it's high but will get a ton, he says it's very dense and he charges me by the pickup load, calls it a ton when actually it's around 2600# normally, should be heavier according to him. I still have a ton from last year and will probably mix with pellets to cut the cost this winter.

I am in central WI (Stevens Point area). If you did not have irrigation around here, you have nothing, or just about nothing. As FirepotPete said it varies greatly. Just a few miles any direction, and corn is better. I am working in Menomonie WI (western area) and their corn was great, over 10' tall in the summer. My uncles planted about 40 acres, and one field, about 5 acres is all that they combinded. The rest went in the silos....

South of Fergus Falls MN we had the rains at just perfect times. Nothing extra. Wheat was hitting 42bu per acre. Beans fair, corn very good, test weights up to 61per bu. no drying this year which saved a lot of time and $$$$. Most farmers tried to take what they could to elevator but lines were long so most stored their corn.

Here in West Central Minnesota they are piling corn on the ground because the covered storage is full and they are "bagging" it in the fields(long white tubes). Moisture is right at 12-13%. Just right for burning, just wished it did not cost so much!
