Glad to see another American Royal Burner I'm on my 3rd I also have radiant floor heat. I'm using an open direct system which is my domestic hot water and heating are tied together. So water is constantly being refreshed in the system.I've burned a lot of different fuels in my boiler weed seed, corn, oats, barley, biomass pellets, clover seed, sunflower seed. Did you do the updates to your stove. We just put one in for a friend and his did not have them.
If it's biomass and I can get it thru my stove I'll burn it.4rth yr burning with a Pinnacle Emerald and 3rd yr 1020 American Royal Biomass boiler.Wife loves the heat.

famer1 thanks for the reply looks like a nice site for info & war stories.I believe upgrades were done. jeff from andersons said so. but what are they? sounds like you can burn almost any thing in yours. spare parts would be a good idea, looking for recommendations & part #. were do you live? do you still milk? thanks again hope to hear from you. The first and most important upgrade is to move the air tube from the fan housing to the fire box in order to have a positive air pressure instead of the venturi affect when your burner is in the low burn cycle.Drawing smoke and heat back up the auger tubes and causing a huge mess or melting of the tubes and clogging the fan. Most parts are available from Grainger timers, auger motors, fan, solenoid have had to replace one of those right off the bat on my stove and just replaced one on my brothers. The Surplus Center has a great deal on the upper auger motors.I have gone thru. a few of those before i changed the air tube it gum's up the grain and tears up the gear boxes. I live in upstate NY no cows brother sold his herd in 85' I raise crop's now and drive bus etc.around 550 acres down from 1,300 acres in 2000.

Also Jeff pull the fan off and see if the opening to the fire box is the same as the opening from the fan if it's not cut it out helps keep a better fire also the hole in the dampener plate on the fan should be drilled out from 3/8 to 1/2 dia. Matt.

Jeff, I work in Madison and live in New Glarus. Im in my second year. What Farmer 1 says about the air changes is very true. It has made the best difference for me this year. Since Dayton eliminated the old auger part the new auger (has a different number) seems to be working (knock on wood) I also bought a cou[ple of spare 6rpms from surplus because they were cheap.

My system is hooked up to the hotwater heater, then the high efficiency (propane as back up)forced air furnace, then new radian in floor system, then new 2nd floor radiant system. Im still working on the 2nd floor but the rest works great as long as I keep fuel in the hopper. Im burning corn but there is a great bio-mass source near us. I just need to figure out how to get it to the top of my bin. (800 BU 20' high) enough for now

hi, mark thanks for the info. i would like to get dayton part # for both augers, and solenoid if you have them. i only have a 100 bus. bin and would like to get a 250 bus. it sucks to have to fill in winter. the only problem i have had is when the gravity part clogs and no corn flows to the auger. i though about some type of viberator to help any ideas? have you had that problem?

What size tube are you running for the gravity mine is 3" Just received an auger from a friend I'm thinking of raising my bin by building a sub frame so the bottom of the bin is level with my auger feed.I will remove the short top auger and run one straight auger from the bin to the stove so it will feed directly from the bottom. My neighbor put one in last year but his bin has the extra long legs so he is able to gravity feed right from the bottom of his hopper which is nice.

Yes this is a very important issue. With Gravity flow the closer to the boiler the better and I have found 45 degree is minimum. Ive had problems even with that this year. Im switching over to a short auger that moves it from the big bin to a 55Gallon drum (small bin) That means the boiler augs straight in to trhe small bin.

I will try to remember to get those part numbers tonight

farmer1, i like your ideas and about the air and augers. the output of my boiler seems to be down from last year. have you had the holes around the fire pot clog up. sorry about being late getting back to you, but when it gets cold i get real busy. 1/2 hole in low fire plate, move tube to fire box, check hole for blower outlet. number for surplus store, and if you have them for # for grainger parts. it is going to be -15 tonight so no up grade for a while. thanks again for your help.
