Feed wheel seal is new this season, still looks good. Plate gasket is also new this season. I am burning the same pallet that I have all season, although I will swap those out tonight, just to give it a try. I have gotten the 2 & 3 many times in the past, but it has always given me the error for a few minutes before shutting down. I can't reason why it would do an immediate ash dump, start the shutdown and give me the error all at the same time. I may also try to reset all settings via Bixcheck tonight.

These random 2 & 3 errors have been haunting me since getting the stove 5 years ago. Just starting this morning, my wife told me my 115 (burning wood pellets) shutdown and displayed a 2 & 3 error. When I got home, restarted a few times and it just kept happening. It will startup fine, a couple minutes into startup all lights will blink, 3 sec on/3 sec off. After a minute or two it will come out of that and burn fine for 7 or 8 more minutes then abruptly do an ash dump, shutdown and display the 2 & 3 error. It only displays the 2 & 3 error after shutdown, nothing immediately before??? I have disassembled everything in the hopper to clear away all pellet dust (this has fixed it in the past), cleaned the vent(this has fixed it in the past), increased the feed to get a richer burn(this has fixed it in the past), but I am still getting the error. Any advice or is there a way to get around what causes any 2 & 3 errors? I am running Bixcheck if that helps.
Thanks in advance guys.

Another Mainer here. I thought I was the only one around here with a Bixby.
No luck with any Maine pellets here. Mostly lack of heat output in the dead of winter and major soot issues. Been running my Bixby 6 years and still love it. Bixcheck is great for dialing in fan and exhaust settings.

First off, no this is not immediately after shutdown.
I have been running the stove a couple hours a day, just to be sure everything ready to go for the season. I shut it down at around 9 at night and the next morning when I get up, I can hear the convection fan incrementally ramping up, then it will stop for a few minutes, then start again, but it isn't anything consistant, just random. I haven't let it continue to run yet, I just end up un plugging it. Any ideas???

Maxfire 115 running Bixcheck if it helps.

So I am having the same 2 & 3 shutdown as the post below.
Starts up fine, burns fine, about 30 minutes in, without any errors before, ashdumps and gives me a 2 & 3 error. I have never had this issue before. I do not ever change my pot settings, as I have always ran off Bixcheck. I am not running during the day, only at night when it is around 40 or below, to me that isn't warm weather, so I don't see that affecting anything. Just started this last night, so I decreased the fan (about -3) and increased feed (about +2) and this worked. My question is exactly what is causing the immediate ash dump? Monitoring all settings in Bixcheck, there is nothing indicating anything is wrong, so why the error and the shutdown?
Very frusterating!

Honestly I don't know where I got the decrease air = more heat. I thought I read it somewhere, but it didn't seem right. I have many pellets to chose from, being in Maine, but everything I have burnt that was good, isn't always stocked, so I end up changing setting to match what I get for pellets and I didn't want to do that this year. The best documented data I could find is here: www.mainepelletsales.com/2011-2-PelletReport.pdf
A lot of good data, but it looks as if the study was done an Okanagan company.
It seemed to indicate that softwood burns hotter, but hardwood burns longer.
Anyway, they are the only consistantly stocked quality pellets around me, other that all the Maine junk pellets. I always use to burn pellets from Tractor Supply, but the brands always changed, until the settled on Corinth and the Athens Maine pellets, both of which I didn't have good luck with.
I decreased my feed the past few years to reduce the dust/ash on the top plate. I just increased my feed back to where it should be and have increased the air, back to where I had it 3 years ago and it is burning super hot now! Thanks guys, it was just my backwards thinking of the settings that was throwing me off. I will run with these for a while longer to see if I prove the data that document is saying.
Thanks again!

Thanks Blume, but won't increasing the air decrease the heat output?
That's why I wanted to decrease the feed rather than mess with the air.
That's my main problem now, I can't seem to get the same heat I have in the past and these softwood pellets are suppose to burn hotter than the blends I have burnt in the past.
I like using the table in Bixcheck, because it gives me a visual number I can change at each setting, so I know where I'm at and I don't have to keep removing the side cover, since it's always connected to my PC.
Any input on why the calculated settings it gave me would be the same at every heat setting 1-8?

I decided to burn "good" pellets this year, so a got a ton of Okanagan's and now I am having heat/feed issues. The pellets are a lot smaller, so I have turned the feed down, but it was still building up in the pot. I also seem to not be getting the heat I expect and my fan is turned down, starts at 75 on 1 and down to 50 on 8, in Bixcheck. Any suggestions?
I am now very confused! I always thought to get more heat, you need to increase feed, decrease fan or both, but when I increased the fan last night, my thermocouple was reading 10-12 degrees higher?? When I have Bixcheck calculate Fuel B for me (lean), it sets fan to 80 and feed to 85 for every heat level??? Won't this result in the same heat output on every setting?? Is my thinking right on decreasing fan and increasing feed??

Still overheated with new bearings.
Ordered new motor from Newark @ $97. Received last night, swapped out connector (need .063" pins)and it's been running fine since!
I am assuming there was something in the motor that was rubbing where it shouldn't have been. (outer race of the bearing/outer housing where the shaft is?
So, if the hub of the motor (where the part number is printed) is extremely hot, replace the motor rather than wasting $ on new bearings.

I think I will be getting single or non sealed bearings tonight and pack it with grease. I did notice a bit of discoloration and what almost looked like pitting on the shaft where it goes through that outer bearing. If I have any future problems, I will try that replacement motor.
Thanks guys!

I forgot to mention, it does look like there is some wear on the end of the motor shaft, where it would go through the outer bearing.
If I need a replacement motor soon, is there any reason I can't buy this... Convection Motor and put my own connector on?
I am assuming this is where they get theirs anyway.

I went back to the industrial bearing place near me looking for advice.
He was questioning if the outer race was spinning in the hub, because I thought I remembered just pressing them in by hand, but after disassembling tonight, I was wrong. I also think I messed up the seal on one of them and I didn't buy new ones, so no stove tonight.
He also mentioned the bearings I got were not self centering and had to be set. All the I would need to do is tap the hub and the shaft after it is assembled.
I am thinking I will get non-sealed bearings tomorrow and get some grease.

I am using the cheapest filters and I just did a good cleaning this past Friday.
It did shut off again last night, with the sides off.
As soon as it did, I put my hand in where the fan is and the air wasn't very hot, but I put my fingers on the outside of the fan hub and it was extremely hot.
I figure that heat has to be coming from friction from the bearings (I got industrial grade SKF last time), so I am getting new bearings tonight. The only thing I didn't do last time is pack the bearing pocket with grease. I will do that tonight and keep you guys posted.
Thanks guys.

I did just replace the filter.
I am running with the sides off now.
If that works, I will put them back on, but slide the filter half way up, if it still works, I will slide the filter all the way down.
Either way, I think your right, sounds like the motor is going to have to be replaced.

Well, it just did it again!

3 times this season my convection fan has stopped running.
The inside of the stove isn't too hot when it happens, but the stove does eventually over heat because the fan isn't running.
This morning is the first time I was in the same room as the stove when it happened and I had Bixcheck running, so I checked the convection fan setting there and it was suppose to be running at 97%, but it wasn't.
I just replaced the bearings this year and they are still as smooth as they could be.
Any suggestions??
