Corny, I never have had a problem with it shutting down on #2 and #3. I am going to give it another good cleaning tonight probably. I also will try to clean the filter out a little bit better. I took the convection fan out in the middle of last season and oiled up the bearings because they were squeeking. This solved the squeek and I didn't have any problems up until now.
I did also switch pellet brands recently but the problem didn't occur until about a week after I switched. Could it be maybe that I just need to clean behind the convection tubes better?
Also how much do convection fan bearings normally cost roughly? Thanks for the input everyone.

Started burning pellets this year for the first time and have been very happy up until now. A few days ago my maxfire 115 started blinking #3 and #5. I replaced the feed wheel gasket, which had a hole worn through it, thinking that the hopper was overheating maybe?? Problem still exists however.
I am running the stove on 5 most days and it seems to overheat and shut off every 12 hours almost on the money. I cleaned the exhaust the best I could along with everything else. Any suggestions? Thanks.
P.S. I am running the old software.

I don't clean a bit of corn going into my Maxim 175. In fact we took some corn straight off of a test plot this year that was run off by a reasearch combine. The corn was full of stalks, some reaching upwards of 8 inches in length, and didn't have a single problem.
My Bixby stove now that is a different story. I have to be very selective on what on burn in there, the cleaner the better.
Sure wish I had another Maxim to heat my house!!

Took my endcap off this morning and put an old piece of stainless 3" on the exhaust portion of the pipe to extend it out another 24".
Right away I noticed a difference in the flame and the stove seems to run more consistently.
Going to pick up an elbow of some sort today to divert the exhaust to the side. Thank you for all of your input everyone!!

I like the way you think . That is the next thing that I am going to try. Is there any way to tell if the exhaust fan sensor is going bad? The feed wheel is clean.

Corny... I cleaned out the airwash and got the stove up and running again.
Seemed to burn great at first but after about 20 minutes the flame whimpered down again. It is still burning but not overly strong.
Also it sounds like the convection fan is varying in speed.... maybe because the stove isn't reaching optimal temperature?
Do you think that my thermocouple wire could be going bad or maybe out of place in the chamber?

The boiler is already in place and is on its second season. We just use the boiler to heat our shop with and I use the bixby in my house.
The maxim boiler is wonderful. We have radiant heat in the floor of our shop which makes it very comfortable for working.
After owning the outdoor boiler I dont think I would ever buy and indoor unit again. The mess is always outside and it will burn about anything you put in it. Currently we are burning some old moldy and dirty corn that spoiled in a grain bin. I was skeptical at first how it was going to burn but it burns great!!

The woodstove has been installed for 3 years now and has just been burning wood but it is a dual fuel ready stove.
When I bought the stove there was an option at the time for a corn burning insert, but it was an extra $1000 or something like that.
I would like to try to find that insert so I can just burn corn in it.
The house just has a radiator in the forced air fuel oil furnace.

Does anyone out there have a central boiler outdoor woodstove that is dual fuel ready?
Central boiler offered a cornburning insert for the outdoor woodstoves at one time. I do not see this option listed on their website anymore.
Just wondering if anyone had one of these or knew anything about them. My brother has one of the dual fuel ready stoves and is looking for the cornburner insert.

Corny, excuse my lack of knowledge here but when you say "airwash" are you refering to the vent cap on the exhaust?

I am burning corn. Moisture of the corn is between 15 and 15.5 which is the same as what I have been burning. The firepot is very low when it runs out and yes I can crack it. I cleaned under the feed wheel yesterday. The thermocouple wire is seated properly (when i pull it off when the stove is running it shuts down). The stove will try to start itself back up but often fails and then the 2 and 3 lights will flash.

My Bixby Maxfire has been very tempremental lately. The stove was running fine, other than jamming on every ash, but now I can not keep it burning. It will start up fine and burn good for 5 to 10 minutes and then the flame will dwindle down and it will go out. My exhaust pipe is new as of a month ago (other than the endcap, and everything else seems to be working properly. I cleaned out the burn pot holes and bottom plate holes but it still seems like it is not getting enough air to the fire. My trimpot settings are set at air -3 and fuel +3. I have tried to turn the air up and still no result. Is it possible that my exhaust fan could be going bad?

Hello everyone, my name is Klint and I am new to to this forum. I live in southwest Michigan and own two corn burners. I own a Maxim 175 outdoor boiler and soon to be disowned Bixby Maxfire indoor stove. Well I look forward to talking to everyone on this site and hopefully figuring out how to keep my Bixby operating correctly. I will also be more than happy to share any of my knowledge with others.
