I was wondering if it would be wise/advisable to widen the holes that are currently in my burn pot. one of my major issues seems to be lack of air flow (negative pressure) coming through the burn pot and the corn not burning well at all. I have worked around it by scraping the front and back of the burn pot every few hours, this seems to make it burn SO much better. What is the general consensus about increasing the hole size to add more air?

Hey all, I was wondering if there were any other Northstar owners out there. This was made by/for Northern Tool and was sold for only a few years (as far as I can tell).
I have 2 questions. 1. How in the world do you get the stirrer rod out to get the burn pot out. I am relatively mechanically inclined and it seems no matter how I try (without dismantling 1/2 of the stove) it will not come out.
and 2. I want to wire in a switch to run the stirrer when needed. This unit is controlled by one knob, and it is hooked to a timer that regulates corn feed and stirrer frequency. Has anyone done this before? I guess the principle would be the same no matter what brand, right?
Thanks in advance. You have all helped a lot already!

I am having some issues with my stove involving some SERIOUS klinkers. We are burning the same brand of corn bagged same day (according to the tag) kept in house at room temp days before use (found out the hard way that corn from outside does not burn well at all.) and it seems that they all burn differently. It will burn PERFECTLY for a few hours, even a few days then all of a sudden it is like the corn explodes in the burn pot and klinkers kill the entire operation.
We are using oyster shell, both in the bin and directly in the burn pot. We also are adding about 10-15% wood pellets in case moisture is an issue.
Any best practices would be amazing and more helpful than you can imagine!

Hi everyone. I just came into a Northstar CS550 stove. Starting to get things figured out, kinda! Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
