yea, I can't see any obstructions. I ran it out of pellets and will give it another good cleaning and thought good time to remove the auger assy to see for sure.

Can you take me through the steps to remove the auger assembly?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Some longer pellets last year. Try to break them up, but can't get em all. I will take a look this weekend and let you know. Not sure how to remove to auger assembly though if that's needed.

Mt Vernon AE. Burning wood pellets. Started end of last season - the pellets are getting jammed high up in the shoot causing shut downs. I've been sticking a bottle brush or screw driver up there to knock them down and will work again - for awhile. I emptied hopper and vacuumed area best I could at end of season, but doing it again.

Is it likely dust clogging that I need to get at in a different way, or is this a motor or some other issue?

Thanks

resolved. there was an obstruction - good size charred piece in the igniter housing (which took out my igniter). cleaned the housing with a bottle brush. works fine now.

thanks for the help
thermocouple going?

just an update - I haven't had time to pull off the thermocouple cover yet, but I wiggled the wire at the base of the cover and that seems to work (for a few starts anyway). So its likely there. I checked the slit in the bottom of the pot for obstructions, and made sure the igniter is properly seated - both ok. I'll try to check thermocouple placement inside cover this weekend and then post the result.

thanks again for the help

thanks kap. I'll take the cover off tonight when it cools down to make sure (still lighting it from underneath with added pellets to get it working during the day). almost all times it goes into shutdown mode after startup. I've seen it go to low then shutdown only once.

yea, I even removed the exhaust fan and vacuumed in there to make sure. Same problem.

hmmm, no error, just shutting down. Any other thoughts then?

Thanks

Have the Mt Vernon AE. Wood pellets. For about a week, the stove will often cycle through, ignite the pellets, then go into to shutdown mode (with a normal fire in the firepot). Sometimes it will into low, then shutdown - occasionally keep going. Everything appears fine, including dropping the right amount of pellets.

I've tried heating the thermocouple a bit with a torch during start up, but does not seems to work. What often does work is putting some pellets into the firepot, removing the ash pan, and heating the firepot some with a torch.

Hoping something (relatively) simple as thermocouple dying out, but wanted to get some thoughts before I buy one.

I don't know the difference. Is it something I should?

It was the fuse - shattered its glass. $2.40 at our hardware store. Used 15a 240v. What a pain to remove the cover off the board with its screws on its inaccessible back side. Had to disconnect all wires then pull it off, pull screws, replace fuse, then reassemble.

Just glad it wasn't the whole control board. Thanks again for all the help.

thanks for the quick reply Kap. Are these special fuses that need to be ordered online?

I have an older Mt Vernon AE. Recently the solder on the ignitor housing broke loose from the firepot and I found the housing in my ash pan. While I was waiting for my new firepot to arrive, I was lighting the stove by holding the ignitor and housing to the firepot with pliers. Obviously didn't think this through as eventually I imperceptibly wore through the casing on the ignitor and the metal pliers contacted the wires throwing sparks everywhere. The ignitor stopped working so I lit the stove with a torch instead - everything else works fine. When I installed the new pot (with a new ignitor), the ignitor will not heat up. Any suggestions, or is this a new main board replacement?
