I think a great gift idea for bad little boys and girls this year is a nice fat clinker their stocking. They are plentiful this time of year and full of nutrients kids love them. The times are changing....lumps of coal to melted corn cakes

Got a 1990 Dovetec at the end of August and started tinkering....I installed it with about a 24" horizontal run outside. Using inside air intake burning 13 t0 15% shelled corn. Here is what I have learned.
1. Do not burn pellets they will clog your chute, cause burnback and start a fire. They will also jam up the auger and strip out the gears.
2. Found that the best timer settings are 5 sec on 8 seconds off.
3. The combustion blower replacement from grainger mentioned in a few other posts as 4c447 is no longer made its replacement 1twd3 has the motor mounted on the opposite side and its a tight fit. And the flange mount is different but you can make the blower work.
4. The manual is useless
5. I have to pop out the clinker at least every 12-15 hours to keep a good flame with the air at the vents 190 to 210 degrees
6. keeps the 1st floor of an old drafty house 68degrees at 25degrees outside at night with no other source of heat.
7. Blows through a full 70lb hopper every day
8. High maintenance stove but fun to use
