Thank you. I am beginning to form the opinion that the pellets they are using are more to blame than I thought initially. Most of my other friends either have switched to the pellets I burn or already had a good brand that didn't cause these problems. I have the solution now! I'm gonna make them try my brand!

They are both using different pellets. I believe one is using a hardwood blend while the other is using softwood. The softwood pellet seems to be a quality pellet as it lists several details on the bag such as low ash content, etc. The softwood pellet being used also indicates that it is CO2 nuetral whatever that means. I know pellets can vary dramatically from one brand to another but I didn't think that would be a factor here. I have seen differences in pellets only in terms of ash, sawdust, etc. We all know how that can effect a stove's performance! What do you think?

Ok...a strange way to title a post I guess, but I need some help. I have two friends that are fellow Bixby owners. They burn WOOD PELLETS and get these big Lava rocks in their burn pots and I can' figure it out. If they were like the pucks the corn creates and just dumped it would not be an issue but they jam up the burn pot mechanism and usually have to be fished out before the stove will run again. That means turning the stove off and letting it cool, etc. A real pain in the butt! one of my friends has a bucket full of them. I would presume this indicates a lean burn but no
adjusting seems to get rid of these rocks. It's hard for me to diagnose as i don't have this problem regardless of how my trim knobs are adjusted. I have attached a picture of these rocks. the one pictured is about the size of a small fist! I told my friend he could tell people it was a meteor! anybody else getting these and any ideas for fixing...?

I am in agreement at the moment. Sometimes it's the simplest things and since I was not involved with the day to day operation of this stove, All I have to go on is what the owner told me. It's too bad - it could have been easily prevented I guess. I'm still undecided if that explains why the convection fan housing and wiring was covered though. I'm trying to wrap my mind around how soot got down there. Is it possible it seeped through the gaskets around the feeder wheel motor?

I did the flashlight test twice tonight with no result. I just don't see any smoke back there. I will disconnect the fresh air hose as instructed and see what I see. The feeder wheel gasket appears to be in good shape - just a few slight gouges from pellets scraping. Funny you should mention it as I am remembering that the owner said he was told by the installer to turn the plate around and run the stove without the gasket as the wheel would operate better that way. He did this until a month or so ago when I told him that wasn't necessary. Could that have caused all the soot damage in his house and on the stove's components?

Hello Everyone! Now that winter is behind us and spring has sprung, I have a challenging issue with a Bixby I was hoping someone or someones could help me solve.
I have a Bixby 115 that was manufactured in may of 2006. It came out of a home that suffered smoke and soot damage at its hand. I was told that it has been in operation for 4 seasons and this damage has occurred over the course of that time. The brass housing for the convection fan is covered in a layer of thick soot as are the other components under the hopper. the feeder wheel plate has been scorched and there is even evidence that smoke and possibly fire was getting into the hopper area as the various stickers and troubleshooting guides on the inside of the hopper lid are now stained with black and brown soot. The inside of the house is covered with soot as well particularly staining the rafters and blinds. I can't imagine it was a safe living environment all those years and I don't know if they have any recourse at this point. I'm just trying to fix the stove as it is otherwise in very good condition. Any ideas on what could cause such a big problem??? Also, if someone could tell me if the motherboard could have caused the issue. If not, I may use it in another stove.
By the way, I will be looking at the hose that connects the firebox to the exhaust as well as the plastic hose/housing around the arm for the ash dump. I also hope to determine whether or not there is a crack in one or more of the heat exchanger tubes. Just wanted to see if anyone else has seen this and if someone had another idea.

I have a Bixby 115 for sale. It has been used for 3 seasons and currently needs nothing. I also have pipe, termination cap and wall thimble for installation. I'm in Vermont. Asking $1500.<br<br>I also can be of assistance locally if you own a Bixby and are having issues. The guys up here know a bit more than I do but sometimes it helps to have an extra pair of eyes and hands on the problem.

I have a Bixby 115 for sale in Vermont. It runs perfectly with no issues. 8 temp settings from 8,000 to 50,000 BTUs. Comes with pipe, wall thimble and end cap for installation. I have several lengths of pipe for most installation senarios and can get more if needed. $1500. I bought one 3 years ago for my home and it was the best investment I ever made. This stove is low maintenance and high output. 99.7% efficient too! $1500.

I Guess I am looking for $100 for the 2 2ft sections and $120 for the 2 3ft sections. I would take $200 for all four. The elbows for $40 ea. I was looking for an idea from the forum of what it is worth as I want to be fair. This seems fair for what I have seen. I think it may cost alot more to get the pipe from Bixby now but I really don't know. Anyway, this is less than what I have seen the 3FT pipe go for.

I notice some folks here are not fans of the Bixby 5/3 pipe but I am wondering if anyone has an idea what its worth and if someone would have interest in some pipe I have. I recently sold a Bixby I had and he did not need the additional pipe. I have 2 45's, 2 24" and 2 36" lengths. All of it is new and in plastic/boxes.
