thanks for the tips...seems like theres def a lot of variables when it comes to finding the right settings to heat your house.
good to know that other ppl do use 2 bags/day. Thought I was doing something wrong. Today it was about a high of 35 out, and ive only used 1/2 a bag so far, almost 7pm, so I guess I'm doing OK with my pellet usage.
Thanks again

the fan works great!
I highly recommend it to all pellet stove users who have trouble getting the heat to other parts of their house.

Thanks for your advice...I keep changing the settings around and playing with it to find the right settings at different temperatures. Its kinda a work in progress I guess. If its above 40 out, which this winter seems to be happening often here on long island, I am going to keep my stove off if I am away for a long period of the day.
Is it bad for the stove to turn it off????
Is it normal to go through 2 bags of pellets on a cold day?

I recently purchased a Harman XXV....just have a few questions on what everyone sets their stoves on when they are away all day.
For example, today was about 40 degrees outside, very warm for mid jan, I decided not to fill my hopper up with pellets this morning (7am) since nobody would be home till around 9pm. When I got home the house was about 63, not terribly cold at all.
When I leave for a long period of time, should I turn my stove completely off if there are pellets still in it? The person who installed my stove said not to turn it off, b/c the stove runs better when constantly running. Should I just leave it on, but the fan low? I don't want to waste pellets by heating an empty house all day, or is it better for the stove to just keep it running?
Any advice would be very helpful on what you do when leaving for the day.

I just purchased a room to room fan. So far its helping heat the rest of the house.
The fan I bought is here: www.iaqsource.com/product.php?p=broan-nu...785&category=885
It fit snug in between 2 studs in the wall, I purchased a dimmer switch that controls the setting, the fan itself says on HI, and I use the dimmer switch on the wall to control the speed.
As for the setting on my stove itself, I guess its still a work in progress. I've been trying to use it on "stove temp", i keep the fan towards Low, and the feeder on 3. Its been in the 20's outside and my house has been been about 74 all day, the other side of the house about 66. The only thing is ive been going through more pellets than I thought I would be. I thought a bag would last me a full day, it seems that a bag is only lasting me about 12-16 hrs, so its like a bag and half a day.
The more I keep trying things the more I figure out, but for anyone who's reading this who is interested in buying a XXV....I HIGHLY recommend it.

being that I am new to this, I think I'm going to need to burn more bags. I bought 2 bags of each and thought I'd be able to tell a big difference, I plan on going and getting about 15 more bags of each kind, hopefully i will be able to tell the difference then.
ill let u know

Is anyone familiar with either of these pellets?
I am very new to this, I just bought a pellet stove (harman XXV) less than a week ago.
Both brands of pellets have less than .5% ash
Okanagon sells for about $7.00 a bag, barefoot $6.50. Good quality pellets seem to be expensive here on long island, not many dealers, or buyers I guess also.
If you recommend one more than the other, please let me know.
Thanks

So I had the dealer come to the house to listen to it....he said that it's the combustion motor making the noise, he said to give it 2 weeks, if the noise doesn't go away he would replace it for me. Its not really loud...but its a faint humming noise that is getting annoying. Hopefully it goes away.
On another note, I've been messing around with the controls to figure out whats the best setting for my house. Im finding that around 70 degrees, and the fan at mid way to high heats my main room well. Though the heat isn't traveling well enough to the rest of my house (I will be placing a through the wall fan in to help this).
Should I turn the heat up higher than 70? What exactly does the feeder setting do? I have it set on 4....should I increase it to 5?
Thanks for any help that anyone can provide me.

I just recently purchased the XXV.....
I am very pleased about it...the one thing that seems to bother me is the humming noise that comes from the fan. It's most prevelant when the flame is gone and the stove is pumping out the remaining heat. Is there a way to reduce the humming noise?
Thanks for your help
