Well the blower vent is about less than 30% open.
It just burn REAL hot. This morning about 8, with blower on, open the door, quite few black smoke came out and awfully hot, lots of flame and they are moving very fast.. I saw the the corn and pellets are about below the 1st hole. Well I turn down to about 15% open and draft reading .04" manometer. I checked it about 10 minutes ago, went down to way below 2nd row holes with 2 inches of flame. The high fire - green on 1 and red on 2 1/2. And low is green on 0.6 and red on 0.3. Sounds right? Can tell the auger is not fast enough to keep the fire pot up?
any ideas?

I mix Cherry pits, barleys, corns, pellets, and wheats and they burned very well!
But mostly corn and pellets.

Been burning very well and had no problem with it. But today, I heard Loud POPing sound and I forgot to check it and had to push all the grains to auger, So I went down and looked oops! Was drinking no corn so I pushed them up and went to check the firepot, the flame is out and made bunch of clinker and auger catch the clinker and goes pop. Okay, shut it off, I use my welding glove and took all the hot clinker out. Let it cooled down for 20 minutes but still hot, I use my hot ash vac to pick up all the dry ash out.
Put fresh corn/pellets in and stunk some cardboard, lighted them, I let it burn for 15 seconds then flipped to "start" and close the door, I waited about 5 minutes, check it, oooh looks good and nice burning hot, flipped to "on". After 1 hour, my house seems get warmer and getting too warm. Because fan kept kicking on for to cool the firebox down even not calling for heat. Went down and check it, the pot still full well maybe 1 1/2 space from top. Then after the blower kicks on, open the door, holy smoke tons of flame! Lots of flames pouring out like 4 inches then closed it. I waited til the blower stop, looked at it big idle fire. Is what happens when the pot is full and likes to shoot lot of flame?
Is that bad for it to run that big? I remember the dealership said wont hurt.
I just want to make sure.
Thanks, Kole

Here some pics of exhaust. I really don't know if I have a good draft.
I still haven't try the trick about turn the power vent to off and see what happens. If I did, will shut the furnace down by itself. Theres a hose goes to the power vent and pull the air to make a suction vacuum and the high limit switch knows the vent is working. Will the furnace go back on after turn the vent to on?

Also posted more pics of this 620-10 furnace and they are in "Welcome to Mat" and "New to forum, Amaizeing heat etc.."

Found another grain company and they charged $6/bu. Some of my friend told me the delongs like to charge more money. They want to make enough money. Hooray! Lot cheaper than Delongs!!

Here some pics of with duct work. All the ducts work were done by me. I built two boxes to fit on the furnace. my local store doesn't have special box to fit on 14"x18". But can get it from furnace store but cost more.

Special damper on corn furnace, in case I ran out of corn, I can use the propane for backup, once the propane turn on, all the heat will go to corn furnace and will loose all the heat too, so I put the danper in it, will close it while the propane is running. When the corn kicks on, will open it. Works very well!
You can see the rod sticking thru the box in this pic. That's where the damper is.

Furnace room, might be little scary for small children now! more duct pipes make look like octopus room! lol

family room in basement!

I think it burns about 2 bu a day.
The low idle is red - 0.5 and green - 0.6. I had 0.2 on red and was using the corn little too fast. Had the fan set properly.
High fire is green - 2.7 red - 1.7. Sounds correct? Fan is blowing correctly. Didn't make any black popcorn but sometimes. After I burned 7 bu and look the ask pan, very little ash! no popcorn, just maybe 1/4 inch of black dust.

Ahh that makes sense, draft proofer. Corn is about $6.47 here, he must be from upper north east.

Oh that thing, yes, a safety switch on the side of furnace. When the powervent goes out, will shut the furnace down. nice feature but its take time to shut the fire down and all the flue smoke will come out from damper draft. Will have to go out side and turn the generator on so will keep all the smoke stay out.

I'm from Capron, IL, which about northeast IL. No i called the delongs grains inc. In Sharon, WI. And they said 9.99 per bushel and bagged for 10.49. Their corn are very clean, no dust and any debris. But will go other place to see if I can find a cheaper price.
Wood pellets - cheap price at Menards is 3.49 on sale per 40lb bag.

holy cow, corn price is $10 per bushel. I thought it would be $6. Last year was $6.
Still will be cheaper than propane? Propane is $2.10 per gal.
My propane furnace burn about 1 - 1.5 gal per hr.

Welcome aboard Kennykole. Nice looking setup you have there. I used to burn a furnace like that before trading her in on an LDJ boiler. What is the contraption coming out of your exhaust vent before the manometer probe? Never seen one of those before. Got my curiousity running.

Are you going to tie into the duct work, or just let it blow the hot air out the top?

New to Corn fired Furnace and just installed into my basement about month ago and really enjoying warm heart heat!

I bought a LDJ 620-10 165,000 BTU furnace.Quite expensive, $3200 new but think its worth it and yes really saved lots of money on Propane!

I would like to know about it.
Good corn Furnace? Are they reliable? Very Safe?
Will last long time?

It have computer control BTU. I can pick any BTU I want. from 80,000 BTU to 165K.

Gotta loved that burnt popcorn smell!

Yes Im using powervent. Whats UPS?? Unit Power Saver?

johnlb wrote:
Are you using the powervent?
If so put a UPS on it,will save you a lot of grief if the power goes out.
Mine will run the power vent for a few hours, plenty of time to get the generator running or keep the smoke out of the house while the fire dies out.

I was thinking about getting car battery and get maybe 500-1000 watt inverter box (depends how many amps that vent use) and hook up to auto switch main box. Like when the power goes out, switch to battery one. Easy for me to build one but I'll try this to see if I see smoke start to come out after I turn the vent off.

You probably will get some smoke in the house, it all depends on your setup, whether or not you will get a small natural draft. I would try it to see what happens, if you see smoke you can just turn it back on. But a battery backup unit sounds like a great item to have........

I recently bought a new LDJ 165,000 btu furnace with 14 bu. hopper and power exhaust vent in about month ago. I have chimney but hooked up with 1800's wood stove upstair.
I loved it. puts out so much heat!
My house is 172 years old, 5 bedroom, and this thing push more heat than my LP 125,000 BTU propane furnace (kept the propane one for backup)
I running on 140,000 BTU and it just great had up to 165K and was TOO HOT!

Have a question, what happen when the power goes out, will all the smoke come out from the vent damper? While the unit is shutting down??
Do I need to get a battery back up? I have 8500 watt generator sitting by the power main breaker outside. When I get any power outage, I go out and started it up but what happen if Im not home and in case I lose power, will my house will be filled with corn smoke?
