OK, so last week I disassembled the ol Bixby. I installed a new ash pan rope gasket, a new burn plate/top plate gasket, new feeder wheel gasket, installed new igniters (thank you Blume), cleaned everything like a mad man. I had hoped to dial in the stove at the same time but alas, I ran out of time. OK, so here is my problem. I have been adjusting my EX and FD pots. I do not have the few hours necessary over the next week or so to sit in front of it and watch. Anyway, when I periodically check on it I will occasionally see the 2&3 blinking as it corrects for a lean burn. When I am watching it comes out of it and everything is OK. My problem is, if I run the stove when I am not home or overnight I have about a 75% chance that I will either wake up in the morning or come home to the 2&3 lights blinking and the stove has shut off. I am burning hardwood pellets, my exhaust is as -3 and my feed rate is at +2.5. What the heck is going on? The stove came with a Bixcheck serial cable hanging out the back. Is there a chance the previous owner "tuned" the stove for their needs with Bixcheck and it is now not working out for me? If that is the problem can I reset it to the factory settings? If it is not the problem WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG?!?!?

Does the motor have folded over tabs which holds the stator and end bells together? If it does, that would be the most difficult part (they break). It is likely a lubricated bronze or sintered bronze bearing. They take a little bit of work to identify but they should be replaceable.

Which bix check should be used 2.70 or 2.71?
and is the cable a serial cable? I have a cable hanging out the back that I had not figured out what it is for.....

Ok, so plans for tomorrow. I am going to replace the feeder wheel gasket, clean the stove thoroughly, and replace the ingniters . Then I plan to follow the instructions on the Wiki to "dial in" the stove. A final set of questions before I start tomorrow. Everyone makes mention how the fire looks in the burn pot. How do I know what a correct fire looks like and how does everyone determine if the burn pot is overflowing? Are there any reference photos out there?
I hope everyone had a wonderful Turkey day and thank you for your support so far!

A day or so and I have an inch of ash. I ran it for a full week and it was about 3 inches tall. My exhaust and feed are at 0 & 0. I tried playing with the knobs I reduced the exhaust to -3 and the fire went out within 15 minutes. I would love to try another type of pellets but my in-laws thought they would be nice and have 3 ton delivered to us. Sooooo... I am stuck with what I have and need to make do. Thanks in advance for your help!

So, I have a bixby 120? or 115? Not sure, I bought it off of Craigslist to experiment with. I am burning hardwood pellets for the past week. I have only had one problem besides an ignitor which failed and that is a huge amount of ash on top of the plate and hardly any ash in the ash pan. The top plate (?)which surrounds the top of the burn pot ends up being a mountain range of ash. Where do I start?
