Re: a few issues, but first... ...
Folks,
Just as a follow-up; I made changes to my burn pot settings, went back to 0 for both air and fuel. I also thoroughly cleaned the burn chamber and underneath, around the burn pot. I cleaned the corn as much as possible (something I hadn't been doing additionally) which took a lot of the fines away.
So with the exception of still having to replace the igniter, the stove has run almost flawlessly since Friday. It's keeping my 1400 sqft. house at a very comfortable 70 F running no higher than a setting of 4 most of the time, with an outdoor temp of 4 F.
Thanks again,
Patrick

Re: a few issues, but first... ...
Thanks for the information and tips. The whole house project has been a new hobby, actually. A foreclosure, but on a really nice small lake, I ripped out a gaslog fireplace and put the Bixby in. I think time and experience will help a lot with the stove's performance. I can't complain about the price of the fuel; all that it costs me is my time and bringing a six pack of quality brew over to my buddy's house who grows the feed corn for his pigs.
Hopefully the cherry crop is back next year along with a supply of pits!
Cheers,
Patrick

a few issues, but first....
Folks,
I purchased a used Bixby 100 just over a year ago. I have used the stove with varying levels of success, and have spent a fair bit of time pouring over the forum and wiki content in the past week or so.
I understand this is the first gen model, and it's very quirky. But because I'm an engineering geek I don't necessarily mind that as long as I eventually master the quirks. A lot of the content here seems to be directed toward newer generation models, but hopefully someone has experience with the model 100. I have it set up in as ideal an orientation as I could create: 48" straight horizontal venting through the wall with the dual-tube piping. I used a combination of cherry pits from TSC, and feed corn from a friend last season that seemed to work very well. This season there are no cherry pits available, so I'm using mostly the feed corn with a small amount of wood pellets. The wood pellets don't work very well as they tend to plug the feeder plate holes.
Sustained burn problems: I did some trouble shooting because I've been unable to sustain the fire with straight corn; typically the stove will shut down because it can't get the corn restarted well enough to maintain temperature after an ash-dump. I've done some experimentation with the pot-trim knobs, but it is far from perfected.
I know the igniter is not working (I've actually been manually starting for some time), this model has only one igniter, and I checked it visually to ascertain whether it works, it does not. Since the motherboard is different than the 115, can anyone tell me if the igniter has a fuse? Since I can't see a fuse, I suspect that the igniter will have to be replaced; is the only source of parts for the model 100 bixbystoveparts.com?
If someone can provide insight, thank you kindly. Then I'll move onto my other questions..
