It still looks a lot like winter up here in Wisconsin. But, spring should be arriving in the next couple of weeks. While there are still a few of you (about 150 a day) making regular stops here I thought I would let you know some statistics for the season. Just so you all know how much good your posts do. Because even though it was fairly quiet, there are a lot of lurkers here. People who come to read but never post.

75% of my visitors to this site are new people. On average they visit about three pages here on the forum during their visit. This past season, from November 1st to today, we have had 27,356 unique visitors. There were 8,479 repeat visitors that came back on an average of 4 times during the season. In total, viewing 93,446 forum pages. 89% of those people come from the U.S. and 6% from Canada, 1% from France, 1% from England. The Canadians didn't amount to as big of percentage but they read about 3x as many pages as the U.S. visitors when they did stop in.

As far as the states, New York state was the winner with almost a thousand more visitors than second place. Then, it is near a three way tie for second with Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

No surprise google was the big winner for bringing in those visitors. But 6,324 new visitors came in direct. That means someone sent them an email, or told them the address and they typed it into their browser. I think that's really great. After that, Yahoo, Bing and Hearth.com were who sent us the most referrals.

A little less than half of you are using Internet Explorer, a comfortable second place is Safari again a near tie, Chrome & Firefox are within 20 visitors of one another. Android had almost 10x as many hits as iPhone. The iPad had twice as many hits as iPhone.

I bought two new servers this year and as soon as spring actually hits, I will be moving the web site onto those new servers and giving a bit of a software upgrade. Nothing should be lost. Most people won't even notice the difference.

Hope you all had a good heating season!

Bob Walker, founder of the Select Comfort bed-making company and the former CEO of Bixby Energy Systems, has been arrested by federal authorities.

The charges are not yet known, but they are believed to be related to an alleged securities fraud scheme involving Bixby, a Ramsey-based alternative energy company.

The company has been trying to market coal-gasification systems in China.

Bixby Energy was charged last week with conspiracy in what federal officials are calling a $60 million securities fraud scheme.

The charge was part of an agreement that calls for the Ramsey-based company to cooperate in the investigation of an unidentified former officer and others who are suspected of misrepresenting the company to investors. In exchange, authorities will defer prosecuting the company.

The U.S. attorney's office said at the time that the agreement was made possible because two outside directors took control of Bixby's board of directors in May, replacing an unidentified co-conspirator in the case who had previously controlled the board. That co-conspirator and his associates were then forced to leave the company.

The description of the alleged co-conspirator fits former CEO Bob Walker, who resigned in May in the face of federal criminal and civil investigations and lawsuits alleging gross mismanagement.

Or, even better yet, pick out the parts you think are important and paste them into the wiki. We could create a US Stove section and what you think is important, likely other people would too.

Sorry, I have been out of town a lot. Staying at places with really crappy internet access. Right now I am in Wisconsin Rapids at a hotel where I can barely get a wireless signal.

No real update. I took my boiler to a welding shop. They said it was a sieve. Unable to be repaired. Likely due to my boiler temperature dropping too much during heat cycles. So right now I am out of the corn burning business. I have a possible line on a used LDJ though, and I am hoping to buy that next summer sometime.

I can tell it is getting colder out without ever stepping outside my door. I can tell it is getting colder because suddenly every other day we are getting a new member here. Up from about one a week during the warm months.

Welcome new members! It is going to be time to light those first fires before you know it.

Yeah, I know. And if I had three of these things to build, I really would read them. But, I only have to do good enough to build the one I have. So I am going to go the "suck up lots of advice and do the best you can" route.

What I need to be reading is how to build custom PHP modules for Joomla Content Management Systems. Now THERE is some dry reading.

Is this what I am looking for: www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail.ex;?sku=0458502

The one (of many?) thing I really don't understand about this design is what pushes the water through the DHW heater? Maybe it is because I don't really understand what a differential pressure valve does.

I should have labelled pump one and pump two. Lets call the top pump number one, the one closer to the boiler pump two.

So, I thought (maybe incorrectly) the function of the zone control box with the priority was that the zone valves would close to the house and leave open the one to the water heater and then pump one would be pumping into just the water heater. Would there be a time when the house zone valves would be open at the same time the DWH would be calling for heat.

Or, are you saying that is why I definatly need the zone control box? Just using the boiler priority zone won't be good enough? I think the boiler also has something where it runs at a higher water temperature when just the DHW is calling for heat.

I am planning on re-plumbing the entire setup this summer. The new boiler came with a probe that I am suppose to install in the water heater tank, and there is a spot to hook it into the boiler so that zone gets priority.

I was thinking I would still need a zone valve control. I found a Taco# ZVC406-3. With the boiler the way it is, would I need the controller to run the domestic water zone, or could the boiler just run that?

The water tank I found on Ebay for $1300 shipped to my door. Locally I found it for $1900 with the friendly Steve discount. No moving parts, he suggested I go ahead and just go the Ebay route.

Well I now have my tax refund in my hot sweaty hand. I am planning on spending it on a 60 gallon indirect hot water heater. Soon I will be fishing for advice on how to redo all the plumbing to get it hooked up.

Just giving you advance warning...
