Yeah school finally has given me a little free time to pay attention to the house.....What did the kit cost if you don't mind me asking? I think it's funny that the company finally caught up to what a bunch of users were already doing. I'm with you; if it keeps the smoke out of the feed tube it would be well worth it. Corn is 260 here this season; most expensive hardwood pellets are about 10 bucks cheaper than that but softwoods are around 200. Either way it beats the heck out of oil! I just wish you could buy the pellets in ton tote bags instead of 40 lb bags--getting lazy I guess.

Once again the forum comes through. Looked at some pics on the web and it is definitely a grain weevil. Billbug is close but looks bigger than these things are. I don't have any lawn damage, but I also don't notice any moths around in the basement. Since I'm not going to get a license, sounds like rona's suggestions may be the way to go. Off to the hardware store. Thanks guys.

So am I to understand that LDJ has adopted the mod that folks were debating back on the old forum, blowing air into the feed tube as well? Is the kit available for the 100K unit, or just the variable 165? Of course the website says nothing about it that I can see......I'd love to burn pellets without smoking up the bin, putting screws in airholes, etc...................

Hi Folks,
Especially to all the old regulars who helped me out so much back on the old forum. Things have been going well corn-wise here lately but I have a new problem that is driving me nuts. I have been infested with some sort of bug that got into my supply and turns it into a foul-smelling gloppy mess. The only thing that seems to kill them is Raid ant and roach, but it's not practical to soak the corn down with that. I have about a ton and a half in my basement bin.
Research in the forum tells me that perhaps diatomaceous earth will work. I have attached a picture of one of the little beasts, hope somebody out there recognizes it and can tell me the best way to eradicate them. Until now (7 seasons) I have never had a problem storing over the summer. Help?

Green Thumb Farms in Fryeburg is where I get mine. Bell Farms in Auburn also sells it. There are others but these are source suppliers, not re-sellers.

Love mine, too. Once you get it set up it runs very low-maintenance other than weekly bin filling/ ash drawer emptying and the monthly cleaning. There was a run of bad auger motors there for a while but they fixed that.If the one for sale has the hot water coil in it, I wouldn't bother piping that up--the boiler doesn't recover fast enough to really make that feasible in my experience.

I switched completely to pellets last season because of cost/ton, but it didn't work out because my 100K boiler flew through pellets in comparison to corn so I ended up spending more. I read on the old forum that someone got it down to a coffee can's worth per bin. It sort of comes down to economics. Just know that if you have too many pellets in the mix, you will have to shorten the off time on the low fire timer to keep your fire lit so you will use more fuel.
