Hi Duboids. Pellet prices in Ontario are usually much higher than what you enjoy. I suppose that's a function of the lower market density. When I checked in September, prices were in the order of $350 per US ton. I can't remember if that was with taxes in or out. Either way, it was above my threshold. I'm burning corn again this year at bottom line of $310 per metric tonne (2205 lb). On a BTU basis, that's still about 30% cheaper than oil, so I'm not complaining even though corn prices have since fallen.

Any kind of savings is good news! I did manage to score 1 ton at Lowe's for $187 and went back this week and had 1/2 skid left which I bought. Other Lowe's in the area $225 a skid which I passed on.... Oil here is not cheap at all either!!

Yup I'm still burning and alive... I did a lot of mountain bike riding this year on rails to trails and was getting close to 1,000 miles for the year... Just enjoying life the best I can in these hard times. I have 2 1/2 skids in my garage so far ready to burn not as much as you but I have a small house to heat. Glad to see you and other regulars still kicking also!!

Might I suggest an exercise bike and The National Geographic or Discovery channel for this winter

Well I go to planet fitness when not riding and run on the thread mill then hit the weights. They have a bunch of TV's to watch but none tuned too Nat Geo or Discovery channel.... How's the pellet supply and prices up north Corny?

I have not burned any corn in well this will be the second year. Back to straight pellets. Got my first skid @ $199 and Lowe's had them $197 but if you used your Lowe's card got 10% off. Went back today for another skid and all gone except 1/2 a skid and a couple torn bags reduced, which I bought. I called 2 other Lowe's in my area and $225 a skid... So I have 2 1/2 and will look around for the 3 skid I might need.... Like someone else posted a record rainfall here in PA beating 1972 records and snow last Saturday !! Mother Nature has been crazy in PA this year...

Hey don't complain Duboids!! Love the smell of Hershey's!! If you come off Rte 15 at the Hepburnville exit just north of Williamsport, PA you can smell the fresh baked Stroehmann's bread. Always roll down my window for a whiff!

The Kellogg plant right off route 283 right outside Lancaster has a good smell also...toasted corn flakes...

Blue corn is another of the many varieties of maize.
You would get the same smell driving by the Cargill bean plant here just off I-380/US27. Then you get a whiff of Captain Crunch at Quaker Oats, then the "where is the still?" from the yeast factory, then the corn mash and corn burning exhaust at ADM.

Sounds like you have been doing some "Drive By Sniffing".... All I smell everyday is chocolate...

do not know where you are located.but 5 to6.00$ per bushel (56Lbs) is about the right price. from a locsl farmer or your local feed mill..

Lancaster County, PA....I think farming in the biggest business in the county but corn is still high priced from the feed mill....

Just spoke with a local feed mill and they said $15.06 for 100 pound bags of clean shelled corn, plus tax! Pellets are 200 to 209 a ton around here so corn would be around 100 bucks more! So that is why nothing but pellets for me...
