Like tjnamtiw said, all I use is a wet wash cloth. We bought a pack of black wash cloths just for the stove.

On my Mt Vernon , any time I start getting heavy sooting it is because of a restriction in my exhaust somewhere. On mine I have to drop the cast iron top of the fire box to expose the blower tubes, buy this time of year they are getting heavily ashed up preventing a good flow. I actually took off the cleanout on my chimney pipe yesterday and cleaned it out.

Thats a pretty good deal.. beats the heck outta paying over $200. Did it bolt right up and did it include the fan too?

If you buy one of these be sure to let us know how it works out. It looks interesting. And it looks like its ready to pop right in. No messing around.
for the not quick and easy
I myself when my blower goes to heck, If its just the bearings I buy a couple 608s bearings.
And if the motor dies I buy a #65569 motor to use for parts, everything is interchangeable except for one end plate that i reuse from the old motor. The shaft is a little longer but it dont make a difference.

I bought an aftermarket blower a couple years ago. Not the one your looking at... and it just didnt have enuf rpms. Most of the aftermarket motors I see are only 3000 rpms instead on 3300 rpms I dont know if its supposed to make that much of a difference but it did for me.
good luck

thermocouple it was, right after posting I did a google and found the test for the thermocouple it didnt do any thing. So at a 4;45 i started calling around to dealers. The closest was 40 miles away. Anyway the lady says I have the part can you be here in the next 10 or 15 mins We close at 5:00. I explained I was from a diff town.. she waited a few seconds and asked if I could be at her store at 6:00. She went home and came back just for me... woohoo.. I got FIRE..
thanks for the quick response Kap
Ive been thinking about starting to pick up parts here and there to have on hand, my convection blower was making some noise a couple weeks ago, put some light oil on the bearings.. it sounds ok for now but I will pick one up before next season. The convection blower doesn't look like it will come apart very well for replacing the bearings, the fan cages are plastic and wont like being messed with.

On my old style Mt Vernon, if I run on the #1 setting my convection blower will continually cycle on and off. Once I switch to 2 or higher the fan will stay on.

I'm sure the real experts will be along soon, but my first thought would be a plugged vacuum hose I have had that problem a couple times on my Mt Vernon. I unplug the hose from the vac switch and shoot some air through the hose. Or possably the snap disc has to be reset.

This is the motor I used to replace my blower on my Mt Vernon. I dont know if its the same as yours. I just had to swap the end piece. There should be a sticker on the side of your motor with the specs on it. The shaft that the fan goes on is about an inch longer but it makes no diff.
Also it could be just the bearings, take the motor apart, the bearings have numbers on them and can be ordered on line for 4 or 5 $ apiece.
JUST COMPARE SPECS CAREFULLY

For cleaning the glass I have only used a damp wash cloth. No real need for anything else. I bought a bunch of black bathroon wash cloths so I dont have to worry about them getting stained. Wipe rinse a couples...
CLEAN your pellets??? REALLY. I've never heard that before.. I know people clean their corn. I've been burning pellets in my Old style Mt Vernon since November 2004 and have never had a problem with fines messing things up, they burn too.
I have a Loveless ash vac I bought last year, works very good, but it sounds like a FREAKING JET ENGINE. I actually put in ear plugs when I use it.

Have you checked to see if your control box is seated ok. Ant time you do ANYTHING inside the stove unplug it. Take the control box out and re-insert it. Maybe it got knocked loose taking the motor out.

Hmmmm.. well I just went down to the workshop and the bearings I took out of my fan were indeed 608-s (sealed). And I replaced them with 608-2rs (high temp sealed). The bearings that were in the replacement parts motor I bought on ebay were also 608-s. A 608 bearing is 8x22x7mm my shaft measures 7.95mm. I wonder if they have used more than one motor over the years.
and like I said those fans are can be a bear to get off, I heated the fan collar to expand it and used a punch on the shaft to tap it out.

I have the OLD STYLE standard Mt Vernon not an AE. With your fan there just wasnt enough rpms I think. The fan blades were almost identical to the factory fan. Maybe I just got a bad motor or something. All I could get for a burn was a big lazy flame and my stove sooted right up (BAD). I messed with everything trying to get it too work (feed rate and box settings). Once I got a factory motor back in it was like night and day. Right back to a hot clean flame. We had someone on here saying they bought one of yours and liked it, thats why I gave it a try. I really wanted it to work, the motor was super quiet, the motor is a better quality motor but it just dont move enough air to get a good burn.
