After having this AE stove for a few years now, when the stove starts up and runs for a few minutes, it shuts down and the thermostat reads, "Vacuum Sw Error".

This is a new one for me. Must be something is not sealing somewhere?

I changed the igniter this past weekend. Unless it is just a coincidence, I might have screwed up something when I was working on the stove.

Thanks for any help.

Certainly is and it is par for the course for as long as I've had this stove. By next heating season I hope to have something else. Maybe a propane stove with chimney. I don't think I would like the ones that don't vent to the outside.

I came home last night to a cold house as my Mt. Vernon AE was out and had an error on the thermostat screen. The ash pan was 1/4 full of new pellets so I figured there was a problem with it lighting and that was confirmed by retrying the lighting sequence. No heat from the igniter. I have seen a couple of post what mention a continuity test on the heating element. So if I understand correctly, you should have continuity between the leads. Is that correct? I have taken the element out and have no continuity between them
The stove was installed in Nov of 2008. This is the first problem I have had with this stove. It's been great.

Thanks

Count yourself lucky. I go through two or three igniter every heating season.

The igniter on my AE went out on Dec. 31. Once the local store opened back up Jan. 2, I went in and bought a new igniter. They charged me $96 dollars for the thing. Talk about sticker shock! I felt a bit gouged.

It's been too cold lately and my stove doesn't bring the room up to the temperature where I have the thermostat set and shuts down about 3 degrees shy of bringing the room up to temp. Setting the thermostat to a higher setting doesn't help either.

I don't see a reference to this in my user manual for the wall control. What does this do? I can make adjustments using that option but I don't see any changes once I am done.

Thanks, David

Just an update.

I was able to pull the panel off on the right side and reach through to the convection fan with the hose from the shop vac and vacuum the fan blades. Now the stove runs quiet again.

Thanks, David

Thanks, Kap.

If things are that easy to break, I guess I had better wait until the heating season is over to clean those fans. I can see the fins of the convection fan when I take off the right side shield. I thought I could vacuum around those but I wonder if I would make things more out of balance if I was only able to remove a little of the cat hair and dust in those fins.

I'll try to attach a pic of the convection fan. Hope it works.

I let her cool off so I could do a cleaning of the heat exchanger. I took the shield off (My right side looking at machine) that is next to the combustion blower. That's the one that blows smoke out the exhaust pipe, right?

Anyway, I left that shield off and started it back up and no more noise. I've had it running for a while now and it is still pretty quiet. It sure seemed like it was the hopper lid rattling. I would just leave that shield off if I knew the cat wouldn't try to crawl in there.

I have to let the stove cool off a bit before I try to re-install the shield. The stove is a too close to the wall on that side for me to work on it without leaning on the stove.

I can see the fins on the convection fan from that side even tho it is on the other side of the stove. The fan is full of cat hair. But it is not shaking right now or anything but I will still need to clean that out. Do you have directions on how to properly remove it and clean it?

When the stove shuts down and cools off, I will take the shield off and see which is which. I think it is the one on the left side at the rear of the stove. (my left looking towards the stove)

When I find out where the problem is, I will start a new thread in case somebody else needs the information.

Thanks, David

OK, I checked and my hopper lid does have a rubber gasket. So maybe it is something like Kap said. After all, neither the exhaust or convection fans have ever been cleaned and I've had the stove for four years.

Now, what is the proper way to clean those fans?

Thanks, David

I have an AE and the lid for the hopper rattles a lot when the fan is on. I put a piece of fuel under the lid to keep metal to metal and that works some but not for long and I have to adjust where I put the piece of fuel.

Anybody had a solution for this?

Thanks, David
